Credit One Platinum Rewards - No Fee - $1.5k

I was recently discharged from a BK7 and got a Capital One card right off the bat. I knew I wanted/needed 3 cards in my arsenal for optimal Fico scoring.

I am planning on getting an nRewards through NFCU soon, but have been pondering what I was going to do for a 3rd card since I burned so many in my BK.

I knew my income is very limited, so I can only afford the one secured card (nRewards) and was trying to stay away from store cards. I also knew I was going to try my hardest not to get a card with any type of fees.

I had a Credit One card back from 2015-2017, but closed it once I got my credit scores up. It worked great for me, but had a very low limit and a bunch of fees, annual and monthly. I did not want a Credit One card because of its mostly well earned, stigma, but went to their site and browsed their cards. I was not going to apply for one that had any fees and one that would not pre-qualify me.

I saw one that looked pretty good with no fees at all and decent rewards, though my income is far too low to be concerned about rewards.

It was the Platinum Rewards Visa with No Annual Fee:

I didn't think I would qualify since my scores are so low and having just been discharged from a BK, but I did the pre-qualify thing and it said I was pre-qualified. Not pre-approved, but I knew the worst that could happen would be a denial, so I went through with the application and was approved:

I was nervous it would be $300, but they gave me $1500. Not sure if my prior perfect history with them mattered or not, but I was pleasantly surprised.

I won't be using it much, but am happy I got my 2nd of 3 cards without any fees so far and fingers crossed I can get my 3rd from Navy soon.

Not sure what Fico version they pull, but they pulled Experian and said my score was 758 from a range of 301-900. My Fico08 Experian is: 544

@Total80sKid, I've never had a CreditOne card but I did take a close look at their offerings last year after my discharge, the only word of caution I have for you on this card is to keep an eye on how they charge interest; I've heard anecdotally some of their cards start accruing interest literally the instant a charge posts, and that dilutes any cash back rewards unless you pay the card in full immediately.  Not sure if this is the case with your card or not, just wanted to alert you to the possibility.

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
  • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

@Horseshoez

I made sure to read the fine print before I dared apply.

This particular card says you have at least 24 days after the close of each billing cycle. Most of their cards do not offer this and start the interest right away.
