Alienware imo is trash now along with XPS.. Alienware is way overpriced using their old name before dell bought them out to trick people on subpar machines. I just build my gaming rigs, granted they aren't labtops. Although other high end gaming labtops out there if that is what you are looking for that beat the above mentioned two.

Oh I agree overall but Dell makes better laptops than the other brands (except maybe Sager but I had such an awful experience having to send my $4500 laptop back to them 4 times in 2 years that I won't buy again) and since OP was talking about Surface, I went on laptops too. The thing with Dell's gaming laptops versus the likes of say MSI or ASUS, is that their warranty is excellent. If something goes wrong, you don't have to ship it off to a service center that's going to ship the defective parts out of the country and leave you without a machine for a month.
I would never buy a prebuilt desktop unless it was a better buy than getting the parts individually in which case I would cannibalize it for my own build. I've built computers since I was 12.
I have my Alienware M17x R1 still to this day. Last Alienware that was actually Alienware. Thing is an absolute tank. It's survived drops, spills on the keyboard, you name it. Would kill to have a laptop with that build quality. Obviously being a 2009 machine, it's not so great anymore.
I was a moderator on notebookreview and I helped guide people towards the best laptops and despite their flaws, the Alienware machines and the Sager/Clevo models were always a cut above the rest when it came to gaming or serious desktop replacement power.
