Correct, it's technically not an upgrade. Simply an extension of the Macy's retail card in getting the AMEX version. Both cards are incorporated into just the AMEX (i.e. no need to carry the retail card); however, both will display online separately.

"Upgrade" is a subjective term moreso than a technical term. What the Macy's AMEX offer technically is not is a PC. PC would be appropriate to use if credit history was maintained in a transition from one product to another. The Nordstrom store card upgrade to a Nordstrom Visa Siggy would be a PC.
However, not all upgrades are PCs. Some members refer to a card changing tiers based on usage (VS, JCP, the old Macy's cards, etc.) as an "upgrade." As for store cards that offer a new TL that uses a major CC payment network (i.e., the SyncB and DSNB cobranded cards), those are also commonly referred to here as "upgrades." The only real difference with the DNSB upgrade over the SyncB upgrade is that the original store card line is maintained with DSNB. But in both cases, the cobranded credit line is a new TL.
congrats

@SunriseEarth wrote:Hello,
I inquired through chat about the Macy's AMEX upgrade on the 7th. Today, I login and see that the card image has been updated to the Macy's AMEX and the header now says "Macy's American Express Card." However, the store card account number is still showing. I tried calling in to the automated system using both my old account number and my SSN and I wasn't able to get info. Neither the CSR nor a subsequent analyst had any visibility on it, either. I'm guessing the card is still in transition.
I will update later with CL information. I'm quite pleased, as just back in March, I had to recon just to get a $600 store line with Macy's. And now I'm back at seedling status, but I think it'll be worth it.
BTW, I also pulled EX....no HPs!
congrats on the upgrade! i tried back in January but got denied....since then i closed my macys card since they had lowered the limit cuz of lack of usage.
I feel ya. Might cls mine too. Paid bill 3 weeks ago. In full. Yes day statement cut. I got 2 dollar charge. How the hell when I paid in full. Went to chat. She said if you don't pay in full first day. Interest starts on day 1. I said never happened before after I paid in full so why now? Anyway they removed the 2 dollars. If I did not check I would think I was paid up. Chance to miss payment. Sorry. See you macys. ![]()
Congrats...

Sorry to hear about that. Unless you had a prior balance, PIF should make you avoid interest when done within the grace period.

UPDATE - I was finally able to get account information for the new AMEX line and found I was approved for $1500 CL! It's lowish, but still beats my Merrick and Citi DC. This is definitely further proof that I need to commit to the Garden for at 6 months if I hope to see better CLs! However, given my past with Macy's, I'm still very pleased with this result!
Way to go! So proud for you. That's an awesome feeling, isn't it?!!!![]()
