My First Chase CLI

I don't usually start credit line increase threads, but since I whine about Chase CLIs a lot, I thought I should.

Without going into too much detail on the drastic change in customer service since the last time I called 6 months ago (1 ring and "Hello K, my name is Susan how can I help you?" has been replaced with "enter the last four digits of your card number" and continue through the prompts before waiting on hold for 11 minutes), I called tonight and asked for a credit line increase on my CSR.  Just the basic income, employment, and housing questions, the authorization to pull a credit report, and wait 10 seconds... "you were approved for $28,000 so we've doubled your credit line."  Chase sometimes asks for an amount so I was going to go big and ask for $50,000 but I'm much happier with $28,000 than $14,000.

Backstory: I've been a Chase customer for about 14 years, with my Freedom still being open after 12 years.  I've never had a CLI from Chase.  I closed a card that had been changed to Slate a few years ago, and they made me take a HP just to move its tiny $1200 limit to that Freedom card and I got grilled by an analyst.  Just over 2 years ago, I called and asked for a CLI on my $4200 Freedom and it was denied.  Spoke with analyst.  Another interrogation and denied.  As soon as I hung up, I rage-apped for a CSP and was instantly approved for $12,000 at the lowest APR.  LOL  A few months later, I was approved for a Slate with something like a $3500 limit to which I moved all but $5000 of my CSP's limit to (along with $800 to Freedom to round it off at $5000).  Once the Slate BT was paid off, I moved the limit back to CSP and in August I did a PC to CSR.

TL;DR Chase doubled my CSR credit line from $14,000 to $28,000.  They pulled EX, which was (I can't believe I'm saying this) my lowest score at "only" 805.  First time they didn't double-pull me that I can recall.  So that score is up probably 60-70 points from the last time I asked Chase for a CLI a little over 25 months ago.  Utilization is down from upper teens to low single digits.  That makes 10 inquiries in the past 12 months on EX (EX keeps getting hammered while TU and EQ will only have one scoreable each very soon), and since the last time I asked I have opened "a number" of new accounts.

Way to persevere, and thanks for sharing the data points!   screamer.gif

I have no idea why Chase makes some things so darn difficult (especially CLIs), yet getting a whole new account often isn't as much effort.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Great job in seeing it through!  Smiley Very Happy

LOL... I'm twitchy as well.  Smiley Surprised  Smiley Sad

For a moment I considered going for a CLI on my USAA Limitless, but honestly I don't really need it (it's at $12k).

At least I put the SPG out of my mind, since even if I were to be lucky enough to not get the infamous pop-up it would be difficult to make the bonus due to the spend required for the CSP.

Back to sitting on my hands... LOL.  Smiley Indifferent

Until my next adventure I'll live vicariously though you and @K-in-BostonSmiley Very Happy

Right now Citi is the one making me twitchy with that wack limit they gave me. Smiley Frustrated Gonna give it til next month and if no SP language CLI appears I'm taking the HP and shooting high with the ask. I'll tackle Chase once Citi plays nice not to mention BofA as well.

Yeah, I have BoA preapprovals for the first time ever (!) so that's in the back of my mind as well.  whistle.gif

Re: My First Chase CLI

Hijack away everyone. It’s fine!

It’s interesting how the different lenders can treat a person. BoA gives me massive limits but mid-tier APRs. Chase gives me fairly small (until today) limits but the lowest APRs available. Citi gives me small starting lines with both a 12.24% and a 25.49% APR, but SP CLIs every time I’m eligible so I know they’ll grow. Amex has been generous (but not BoA generous), but with the amount of spend I give them my lines really should be larger than they are.
