NFCU Approval but I should have waited :-(

I have been with Navy since 2015 when I began rebuilding.   I have had 2 cards for a while that have limits of 22k and $16,500 and have zero balances.  Scores are upper 600's for EQ and EXP and TU is 706.  Recently paid off all of my cards but reports still show 29% utilization, in hindsight I probably should have waited to apply for my third card but I was hoping for a low APR on NFCU Platinum.  I got an approval for $7,300 at 15.24%.  4 years ago I would have been thrilled but after Chase gave me a CSR with a $48,500 limit (27% apr yuck) I have what is likely unrealistic expectations.  Of course I will go after a CLI in 6 months and I expect with 0 ulitization across a TL of $145,500 I should get some love.

Next time I will take my own advice and be more patient but I am happy to have the third card and an oppourtunity to let it grow as my others have.  FYI in 2015 my scores were mid 500's.  The good folks here have done a ton for me and I hope that sharing my information helps others.

Paying all cards to $0 will cause you to lose points. Let one card report at least $10-20.

|| AmX Cash Magnet $40.5K || NFCU CashRewards $30K || Discover IT $24.7K || Macys $24.2K || NFCU CLOC $15K || NFCU Platinum $15K || CitiCostco $12.7K || Chase FU $12.7K || Apple Card $7K || BOA CashRewards $6K

Congrats on the Navy card! Your rebuild is impressive. Can't undo it, but yeah, patience seems to be the winning strategy with credit.

Thanks, I will do that.

Congrats on the approval!

Don’t sweat the APR, you can ask for an APR reduction once a year. As long as your EQ FOCO 9 has been trending up, it should be granted.

Thanks, I hadn't really thought about that.
