Hey there ,
so I decided to finally joint NFCU about three weeks ago after reading tons of good things about them and realizing I met the requirements to join due to my grandfathers being in the army ( Even know the reps didn't ask for any info at all besides what family member I had that was in the Milatary , but didn't ask for any proof ) I applied and was told I would find out in 3-5 days if I was approved to become a member.
On the second day I got an email asking for more proof of ID , I sent that in and waited. On the fourth day I recieved my welcome email saying I was now a member.
fast forward about to last night and I decided to take a chance on applying for a credit card with them. After doing a lot of reading on the forums here It seemed most ppl had luck apping for a card right after joining with barley no history with them. I took the chance as well and received a email stating they would have a decision within 24-48hrs. That kind of bummed me out seeing as I'm always used to it being a denial when ever something like that happens.
luckily that wasn't the case this time. I received the email about an hour ago saying - Your approved for the NFCU Amex more rewards card. I figured if I did get approved I'd barley get in the door due to 2 recent late payments in the last year with comenity. To my surprise they offered me a $3000 SL with a APR of 12.99%. That's my lowest interest rate yet. I'm more then excited to start my journey with them and build a great relationship. Within 90 days I'll be apping for my second card with them and hope to hit it big like I see most have had happened when applying for there second card with them. I'm glad they looked past the recent lates and gave me a chance. There customer service has also been nothing short of top knotch.
Here's some data points for anyone that might want them
They pulled soley from transunion.
FICO SCORES
Experian Fico 8 - 701
Transunion Fico 8 - 681 ( As of last month I expect it to go up a bit when it updated on the 10th)
Equifax Fico 8 - 699
FAKO SCORES
Transunion - 754
Equifax - 754
98% payment history
Utlization - 1%
Open accounts - 11 counting this new one now. 7 are mine and 4 I'm an AU on
Average age of credit - 5yrs 4months
Collections - None
Hard Inquires - 1/0/0
BADDIES -
- 30/60 day late with Comenity from Jan/Feb of 2020 about 10/ 11 months old since my most recent late.
- 30/60 day late with Discover from 2018
I've had no success getting ethier company to goodwill adjust the lates but I haven't given up yet. The Comenity late is still holding me back greatly since it's so new. Hoping to have some luck getting it removed soon as it ages a bit more.
All in all I'm pretty darn excited to finally be getting somewhere on this credit journey after many years of just trading water - I'm finally starting to get somewhat higher limit cards then your typical bucketed $200-1000 cards. I was also Recently approved for the Apple Card 3 months ago and that was a 3k limit as well and was able to avoid a hard inquiry by doing the trick where your freeze your report after they do the soft pull so that was a plus.
It's been a long journey and I'm planning on apping for a few more cards but not until I get that recent comenity baddie removed to ensure my best chance on getting higher limit cards and approvals with some of the big dog companies.
Anyways that's my story , I can't wait to see what the future holds as a NFCU customer. Thanks for all the help I've gotten on this forum from the many great members.
Peace!
Ps - I've seen some people say after being approved for a card with NFCU before activating the card they called in and said they were hoping for a higher credit limit that fits there monthly spending and have had success with them upping it. Would you say that's worth a try or don't do it and just use the card for 3 months and then app for a second one where it will most likely be higher ?
Congrats! Just remember it's 91 days and 3 FULL statements.
Congratulations!
