I’ve heard a few different things on this...are you sure?
1,000,000% Sure OP. Congrats anyway

I applied for the PenFed Pathfinder Rewards Amex and was instantly approved for 10K! That's awesome, but what's even better is that I'm HOPING (praying!!!) that this will take me off the AMEX blacklist that I am probably on for a BK in 2010, in which AMEX was IIB. Also, of note, they definitely pull Equifax, which helped me since my BK is not showing up on my EQ for some reason!?!? And I'm not going argue with that at all....it'll be off the other two in 16 months and I can't wait to have the prestine credit I had prior to BK!
On the other hand, they would not also approve me for the Visa Platinum Signature unless I wanted to take $5000 from that card and have a $5000 limit on both cards, for a $10k total. They say that $10K is their max to start and that anything else that people say isn't true. I don't believe that at all based on what I've read on here...That was pretty disappointing.
Anyway, I am not sure if 2 cards with $5K limit would be worth it...or just one with $10K....thoughts on that?
Has anyone had experience with this? Either way, still so happy to get a great zero AF reward card with a great company!
Super Congrats on your PenFed Amex Pathfinder $10,000 SL!
I'll take a quick moment to echo some of the previous sentiments:
Your PenFed Amex was approved based on PenFed's credit union criteria,
not Centurion Bank's banking criteria. So you're good to go with PenFed,
but you're still black listed with Centurion Bank. As previously suggested,
you can repay Amex what you burned them for and see if they'll give you
a second chance. No guarantees, but at least you will redeem yourself.
Regarding PenFed's $10k new customer limit: we've had forum members
who were also new PenFed members but with prior military/government
service be approved for higher than the $10,000 SL. So if you had to make a
contribution/donate to a charity to join PenFed, that may explain your 10k SL.
No worries, though. Take good care of your Pathfinder and your limit will grow quickly.
In addition, responsible card management will position you for the Visa Platinum Signature
you want as well. Congrats again on your approval. Thanks so much for sharing!
Awesome approval! Congrats!!

I'm curious to see data points on this. I spoke with PenFed in late January when applying for the Power Cash Rewards card and they told me that effective January 1, 2018 the maximum credit extended to any new member is $10,000.

I found a previous link to support the data points you asked about.
In the link below, OP was a new PenFed member with military affiliation
due to his grandfather serving in the Korean War. SL was 19k.

Does having a family member in the military count? My father and grandfather and most of my dad’s side were in The Army.
Yes, it does. In the link I shared above, OP's grandfather
was in the Korean War. So active duty/military veteran/
government civilian service (GS employees) and family
members all counts.
P.S. It's important to note that the OP mentioned that he
spoke with a Pen Fed customer service rep who told him
Pen Fed gives higher than normal SLs for the Platinum Rewards
Card. Most of the MyFICO posts I've read are about the
Power Cash Rewards or Pathfinder. This may be a factor
as well, but YMMV.
Congrats! although it will have no bearing on ever getting approved by Centurion Bank (AX).

Thanks; although I suppose we disagree on what "prior military/government service" means.
congrats!
