Little victories add up! Congrats!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I was at Target and called them about my limit and told them I needed to buy some things and that my account had been open for three years. They didn't seem to care. I did learn something from the call that was useful. Apparently if you aren't given an increase in 75 days after you update your income, you didn't get an increase you probably aren't going to get one and need to update your info again. From reading posts by others who have been given an increase after not using the card for a while and then updating income info and then using the card it doesn't appear that usage is a factor in the choice to give or not. Even though TD does the accounts, I think that Target set the parameters in the beginning and still has some control over it. I also imagine that when TD took it over that they were not able to do many increases due to the amount of the portfolio and must wait a bit until they can give out increases. (I think this based on factors about deposits and lending. It might take them a while to figure out how much they can give and make proper plans for future increases.)
While I don't want to say what Target has done has been wrong, since it certainly has made their risk of default on accounts low, I do think they should be giving out a little something to some of us a little more often.
I would be happy if they simply gave me a $100 or so every 4-6 months to show they appreciate me as a customer. Heck if they had done that I would have double my limit from an account that is 3 years old.
At one point your could have said the Red Card is CapOne of Store cards......
Wow, I just checked and I got a whopping $200 increase to $500! Schmucks.
Still nothing ![]()
I used it for a purchase yesterday, so maybe something will come of it.

You learned about the 75 day thing when you called? How did they explain that to you? I got excited seeing some other people log into their accounts and see a CLI so I checked but nope. I updated mine on the phone last month (when I called for a CLI) and then again online not too long ago... I wonder if anyone has had luck closing and opening a new card to see if that helps with SL and CLIs...

Yeah, the representative explained it to me and then I asked to speak to speak with a supervisor I got a slightly different answer about the update of the income. However, when I circumvented my way around what she was saying verses what he said, it came back to the basic conclusion that if it hadn't happened in the first 75 days, then it really didn't matter. It was rather weird how they both said the same thing in different ways. While the supervisor said I only needed to update the income every year and that accounts were reviewed randomly every month, that if I hadn't got one then I was still eligible, but still did say that it was best to update it often. I felt like I was talking to CapOne, well CapOne about a year to three ago. (Yeah, the have changed, but not fully as I still have a CapOne account which can't get CLIs by requests and is never given one.) I hope that TD changes things and makes it better for Red Card users.
I also have to note that the supervisor seemed like she was trying to put icing on it. There is an old song that goes, "a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down...." While it really isn't medicine in a true aspect of analogies, the song does convey the same meaning.
Like I said, I don't need a huge limit with them, but something every now and again would be nice. I keep reading more and more posts about people who get better starting limits than mine has been at since it was opened. Heck, Comenity just tried to offer me a PayPal Buyers account for $3000 and Huntington approved me for a card with a $7300 limit. I would thing that Target would at least, after 3 years, give me some love....
@truckerwife wrote:I'm shocked right now. I had something trigger myfico with an activity notifcation. Target increased my credit line to 400. I've had this card since 2008 and it has been stuck at $200. I haven't asked for an increase nothing. I have used the card about once a month and pay in full almost every month since I've had it. It was a complete surprise.
Little victories.
Just got approved for Target red card last nite with $300 cl and was thinking that was measly. After reading posts I guess it's normal? The rep said to call the number after activating to request an increase but I won't be too surprised if that doesn't happen. I am always grateful for small things, just want to say. I like the 5% rewards. I didn't realize there is no Target visa anymore but they still upgrade people with the red card although I don't how that works? Six months ago my TU score was 559, as of today it is 720. My goal was to hit 780 in a year. TU has been very good in responding to my disputes & removing junk, EQ & EX are another matter.
I am not shy re: recons but haven't had anything come of it except for wally card. Would like to know what everyone says when reconning for an app or cli.
great! Soetimes I want this card and sometimes I don't.![]()
Congrats! Target has been showing some love to some people, hopefully in another 5 to 6 months you'll get another.
