Target upgrade to Mastercard

So this is hubbys card. A little back info . He got the card in 2014 with a 500 limit . It was dropped to 400 when we missed a payment in January 2015. Stayed there for years . We got letters in the mail every year that they were gonna close the card for inactivity . So we would use it once every 6 months to keep it open . Hubby debated closing the card cause he hates toy limits and I had no idea how to get it raised. Fast forward to last year I found this site and started to learn a whole lot about credit . Read up on the target card as well and how to move the limit . So earlier this year I
Started buying stuff at target that I would usually get at Walmart. Let the statement cut with a balance then pay it off. After 3 months of that cycle limit went from 400 to 600. 2 months later it went from 600 to 900. Next statement (with a balance of course ) went from 900 to 1300. Then last month statement cut with 85 collar balance and they raised the limit to 5000!.
Was told on here by a member that usually 5000 is when your card will be upgraded to Mastercard but ymmv of course . Got letter in mail yesterday saying congrats card will be upgraded to Mastercard October 26th. Super stoked ! Even my hubby , who is pretty bla when it comes to credit who excited to hear that !

I recently got a target card since I don’t want to be an authorized user on hubbys cause he has a late Payment . Hoping to get my card upgraded to Mastercard as well at some point !!
Hubbys scores are all around 770’s. 1 late payment from 2015. 🤗🤗

Congrats! I've always tried to contribute what I could about that card since I first noticed the pattern with CLIs, and I'm glad it's become more well-known. A few years ago, this card had a pretty bad rep around here... but there's actually pretty steady and consistent growth if you actually utilize the card and let the statement cut with a balance (the latter of which I recommend anyway, provided that you have a reasonable amount of financial discipline). I've grown steadily from $500 to $5k since 2/15.

TD has also, to my observation, been giving out better starting limits and has been better about CLIs recently. I worked at Target from the beginning of 2017 to the middle of this year, and they usually approved around $2500 if you had good credit (MUCH better than it used to be).

I personally got my MasterCard upgrade last Summer when they bumped me to $3k, but that was back when they seemed to be giving them out in annual waves. Not sure if that's still the practice, but YMMV with any issuer or card of course.

You are going to have to wait. That's what I did. TD Bank started me with $2K, and after 1 year of non-use, they CLI me to $9K and sent me the MasterCard. 

Upgrades are done by a computer because CSRs, in my experince, were never able to process a CLI for me. Things may have changed since my time with the card.

With your 825 Fico, you should expecting the CLI and upgrade soon.
