Wanted to share my recent experience with the US Bank Cash+ CLI process, which appears to have changed in the last 1-2 months.
Background:
- Opened US Bank Cash+ about 11 months ago
- Starting limit was $5000.
- If I remember this correctly, I had to ask for a higher limit as the very initial approval was $1000.
- Pulled Equifax at that time of the initial approval, which was hovering around 750
Trying various CLI Tricks = NO GO
- First, I tried various links floating around this board to see if I can get a $1500 CLI with an SP
- Next, I called credit analyst backdoor number, 800-947-1444.
- Asked about CLI using Soft Pull (SP) and was told that ALL CLIs done through this department result in a Hard Pull (HP)
- Was suggested to perhaps call regular customer service
- Next, I called regular customer service number, 800-285-8585
- Asked if I can request a "small" CLI of $1500, amount which has traditionally resulted in an SP based on other reports from this board
- NEW PROCESS: Was informed definitively that the process has changed as of 1-2 months ago and that US Bank no longer allows for amount-based CLIs. In other words, one can either request CLI or not request it but can no longer specify the amount.
- Further, I was informed that CLI request may result in an HP. When asked if this is always the case or if it's on a case-by-case basis, was not given a definitive answer
- Decided to go for a CLI
- Went for a CLI request, knowing that it may result in an HP. Was asked by customer service to consent to a possible HP, provided updated income information and was asked to confirm mortgage/rent details. No other information was asked.
- Was then immediately told that I will receive my answer in 7-10 days. Was not told if it was a denial or approval.
- HP 2 Business Days Later = NOT IMMEDIATE
- Two business days after calling customer service (Friday to Tuesday), received an alert that TU report had a new HP
- Within 15 minutes, confirmed that it was indeed HP from US Bank
- Logged in to US Bank portal and saw a $5,000 CLI for a total new line of $10,000
- By the way, no email was received from US Bank regarding CLI
- Data points
- TU FICO around 760
- 6 inquiries in the last 1 year
- Many new accounts in the last year, 4 in the last 6 months
To summarize, at least based on my experience, it appears that US Bank has phased out the "small" CLI trick, i.e. being able to get $1500 or less CLI using SPs.
Thanks!!
