App'd on 11/11 and got the 7-10 day reply. Approved on 11/17, 15k. Card should have been here 11/22 but nothing yet.
Have a Cash+ 14.4k and Altitude Go 20k. Wish they would allow reallocation from Go to Smartly as this could become my everyday card. Opened checking and savings and will move 100k from a Merrill IRA to get the 4% cash back.
Checked the mail today. The only thing I received was two postcard style letters from USB to verify that mrs. ptatohed and I really applied for the Smartly Savings. If we did, do nothing. Still can't add her as an AU to the credit card. Still can't open a Smartly checking. :-|

At least they did not tell you to go pound sand.
Received similar letters and the bank claims that they could not ID me. Very interesting, as I am one of there customers' for many years. I just let the applications lay and die. They did do a soft inquiry of Experian.
Will say, how can some one be unverifiable as a customer and show as there customer in the credit bureaus for over twelve years?
Financials and their processes defy logic!
Now in truth, I did not know it was only ID (had a CSR helping and they did not know reason for denial). So, being a resourceful MyFicoer, I p/cd a bank savings and checking accounts to the Smartly program and went after the new black card and it all worked. More than one way to skin a cat ![]()

@ptatohed not sure if you're opening the checking because you want it, or for savings maintenance waiver, but noticed in one of the emails I got after approval that you don't need the checking to waive the savings account $5 month fee. Found this in the T&C's, so looks like they updated the requirement. If you have the card, then it waives the savings monthly fee
It was in the email titled "Congrats! You're earning more, Smartly" - check the terms and conditions at the very bottom of that email.

Dude. @credit_is_crack , you rock. I'd prefer not to have the checking if I don't need it to waive all fees. Thanks!!!!!!!!
All of the information is helpful.
Now to receive the Tiered Interest rates on the Smartly Savings ... will you need a Smartly Checking? In reading it does appear that the Smartly Credit Card or products that qualify will be enough?
For the science of it, I joined the MyFico crowd and jumped on the band wagon!
Precious arrived. Now I am one with a Black Card. Last Black Card I had was the Michigan National Bank Visa of 1982 (Black with a Gold and White Visa in the Center).
My Informed Delivery is showing a Fargo ND letter coming. This has got to be the card.
US Banks online infrastructure must still be updating various parts of the site and apps when it comes to the smartly visuals. Today when i clicked on "Rewards Details" on desktop it showed this as my card
Rose Gold Smartly??

So, Yes, you do NOT need the checking account to waive the $5 monthly savings fee, but you DO need it to earn the elevated savings rates. When playing with the calculator online...
Savings APY with balance of $5k and no checking account = 0.05%
Savings APY with balance of $5k plus the checking account = 2.80%
