@Binbinimiwi  So if I'm at $15k and request an addl $35k above that then you think that is what can trigger a IV or POI?

if so, then if I request a CLI that gets me to $40 or $45k ( extra 25-30k) that I might be safe? Totally recognize YMMV in all these cases.

@Aspireto850, the link that @Binbinimiwi mentioned "The Definitive AMEX 3X CLI Guide" references the new Credit Limit (NOT the amount of increase requested) as the possible trigger that prompts AMEX to ask for the IV or Form 4506-T.   At the time this thread was written in 2013, that credit limit was often $25K.  More recent data points have indicated that $35K is the latest standard.  I've seen cases where once someone reached that level, they slowed their increases to, perhaps $5K every six months, and avoided those requests.

As you said, it is highly profile-specific.  I was approved for my Marriott card around the same time of another forum member with a similar profile.  AMEX gave me 3X the CLI after 61 days with no IV but required him to give IV prior to approving the 3X limit.  In both cases, the CL went from $15K to $45K.  AMEX shocked me with approving my second increase on my card at less than six months (only 136 days) and took it all the way up to $75K without IV or a Form 4506-T.  So yes, YMMV!

So, I decided with the return of the LHeartVE button, that I would go ahead and give it a try since I'm at 94 days on my still shiny BCP. My SL was $8K and I asked for the whole 3x; because why not right?! My grandfather always said, "A closed mouth doesn't get fed." and if she was nearby and heard him say it, my grandmother would follow up and say "Never be afraid to ask for what you want because the worse someone can say is no; and if they do, you just move on to plan b, but also bide your time to ask again later in case they change their mind."

Well, I wasn't turned down (thank goodness), and I did get an increase to $24K!! I'm soooo thrilled b/c this gives me a good pad for utilization.

Re: Very First AmEx CLI !!!

@Aim_High  Thank so much! Thrilled that you picked Snoopy; he is one of my favorite cartoon characters! For a long time Snoopy's theme was my cellphone ring tone. Overall you can't beat Snoopy, Foghorn Leghorn, Snuggly the Snickering Hound, Pepe Le Pew, Speedy Gonzales, and Jerry from Tom & Jerry! My babysitter introduced me to these cartoons when I was a kid and I quickly ditched the shows I was watching (Garfield, Alvin & Chipmunks, Rugrats, Inspector Gadget). Yes, I'm an 80's baby and am dating myself!
