AMEX CLI... Continued

Hey all,

Just updating where I'm at in the process with trying to navigate a CLI from AMEX.

March 6, 2022: Opened a Mariott Bonvoy card.

May 6, 2022: Inquired about a CLI; agent said "New cardholders become eligible at 90 days. The 61 day rule isn't applicable unless already established with AMEX." This doesn't seem to 100% be the case as we've seen, but that's what they're telling people.

June 4, 2022: 90 days, still ineligible.

June 5, 2022: 91 days, still ineligible.

June 6, 2022: Statement day, still ineligible. Contacted customer service, who told me the previous agent was completely incorrect. The policy is now 180 days for new cardholders.

Frustrated and irritated, because it just feels like a company like AMEX should have this figured out. Hearing something different from every agent you speak to just feels messy and unprofessional. Live and learn. /shrug.

I'll try to update this thread when/if my account ever become eligible.

That happens when we ask them questions they aren't supposed to know answers to.

Just like public, CSR aren't privy to underwriting minutiae, nor can they adequately asses your profile.

So, instead of asking CSR, read the letters they sent.

So, when you got denial letters, what was the reason listed? Just that you have to wait 180 days?

You said your FICO scores were "610-614 across the board and your UTL was 47%" at the time. So unless a WHOLE lot as changed in that picture in the past 90 days I'm sure this plays a huge part too.

They did the same to me at 60 & 90 days. I called and was told to wait until 180 days. I got sidetracked one morning and thought for some reason I hit the 6 month mark and tried again. I got the x3 at 5 months, lol. No harm, no foul. I'm going for another x3 at the 12 month mark. My scores were around 720 at time with maybe 1% utilization. If you scores and utilization are what you noted you probably won't be seeing a CLI though.

Im confused......isnt it standard for credit companies to require a 6 month period before you are eligable for a CLI???

AMEX has a policy for a review at 60 days days if requested. Some get it some don't.

Nope.

It's lender specific, some may give increase much sooner, others might fall in "never" category.

OP, your approval is barely squeeze in approval. Limit on it isn't a toy limit or $1000.00 simply because of CARD act and requirement that starting limit cannot exceed 25% of starting limit (not applicable when doing PC to higher AF card when it comes to Amex)

I don't want to pour water over anyone's parade but it will be a while before you see an increase from them.

Or to prevent mathematical contradictions: "annual fee cannot exceed 25% of starting limit"

I went through the same thing with AMEX. 1 person told me it was going to be 90 days...then 91...then 180. When I complained...they said it absolutely was NOT 180 days and that person was wrong...they said wait. Its after 90 days...but sometimes its 95...sometimes 100. I waited and it was about 96 days and the CLI option became available. The reason why no one knows exactly is its automatic. They cant change it. It also doesnt tell them when it will be available so they cant tell you exactly when. SIt back...be patient....check in a week.

I think you are probably right given how things in the economy are going. You are going to see the banks tightening up again.
