I currently have the PRG and Gold Delta and have been seriously considering the Plat. My problem is I keep getting hung up on having too many Amex cards even though I value MR points the most.
I've been thinking about getting another no-fee Amex card such as the Everyday or Blue, transferring my Delta CL to it and sock-drawering the Delta card but keeping it open to take advantage of the free checked bag & priority boarding on Delta flights.
Now the real problem is if I spring for the Plat, do I keep the PRG? I think the only thing I would miss from it is the 2x points at gas stations and restaurants. I just cringe at the thought of paying 3 AFs since I want to keep the Gold Delta open as well. Decisions, Decisions
Amex and Chase both swap position when you make a list of pros and cons in each possible benefit/perk/value category.
I know "The Points Guy" compared the two in many categories and Amex definitely is ahead of Chase in certain perks. Google "Battle of Premium Travel Cards The Points Guy" to read their post. Note -- "The Points Guy" is not a guy, it's a corporation called BankRate that acquired the blog maybe 5, 6 years ago. BankRate also owns a bunch of other popular credit card/travel blogs that pretend to be "some guy" lol.

Disclaimer: Not trolling here, just curious. Why do people go for the Amex MR cards over the Chase CSR combo? You'd get 7.5% UR's towards on the rotating categories, 4.5% on all dining and travel and a minimum of 2.5% on everything with a total AF of $450 which is less than the Amex Plat alone. Why is it that so many take the Amex route
Chase and American Express have different transfer partners. While it's nice to think in terms of 1%, 2%, 5%, etc... most of us here that run significant spend through travel cards think in terms of points or miles, because we transfer our MRs and URs. My chosen program is Marriott (a Chase transfer partner) and I net a little over over 2 cents per Marriott point, so (rounding down to 2 cents per UR for simple math) my Freedom card is effectively 10% back on categories and my CSP is 4% back for travel and restaurants, BUT my Amex Starwood card is 12% back on SPG/Marriott/Ritz-Carlton purchases and 6% back on all purchases. Airfare on my Platinum card and non-Marriott/SPG/RC hotels that I might book through Amex Travel are both 10% back.
Chase also doesn't give you elite status with hotels or rental companies. My SPG Gold status translating to Marriott Gold Elite had already more than paid for my AF (+$175 for DW's card) by July of this year, and that's not including anything like airline credits, Uber and GE/TSA. It really comes down to how you reward yourself and who you reward yourself with. For a lot of others, I could easily make the case where the Chase trifecta is absolutely perfect.
I don't see a good way to have both PRG and Plat. I might want to change PRG to Plat but its AF looks very high for me. Is there any welcome offer for a PC change of PRG to Plat? Is it feasible to do PC in the first year of PRG (while keeping MR/SUB points)? I highly use Uber and the 200$ Uber credit of Platinum looks promising. If feasible, I want to see if platinum would be a good product for me, I might want to keep it. If not, later on after 1-2 years, I might downgrade it to PRG. Without a welcome offer, it would be a very costly test and I am not interested. But I do not want to have two travel cards with AF. Any recommendation on PRG/Platinum?

I would bet the Points Guy owners get a hefty fee from Amex for their overvaluation of MR's. Right now they have an exclusive offer of 125k points on Amex Hilton card. I would take what the Points guy site says with a grain of salt. I would also take Chase Points over MR's as you can convert them to Southwest miles which are much more valuable and usable than Delta miles. Unfortunately I am way over 5/24 so I won't be getting Chase points any time soon.

If you want to test drive the Amex Platinum get the Ameriprise version as it has no annual fee the first year. (no signup bonus either) I find the card pretty worthless than the 400 dollars of airline gift cards. Did a round trip flight this week and at both airports the priority pass loungers were in different terminals. You only get 15 dollars a month in Uber. Haven't set that up yet. And haven't charged anything on it other than the gift cards yet and global re-entry fee.

Good research. I use Doctor of Credit and the reddit churning site for information. Both seem to have more relevant information.
Now, I have two travel cards with AF: PRG and BOA PR. The AF of both would be covered by perks and airline fee credits. Not a frequent traveler for the moment, but highly using Uber/Lyft (my guess is BOA PR, similar to BOA TR, counts Uber in travel category).
Is there a recommendation to apply for Plat or PC PRG to Plat? I doubt that I can cover its high AF, while looking for some good recommendations.
