Anyone have experiences with AMEX's Purchase Protection in the past 6-12 months?
Long story short my cousin lost her iPad Pro and the accessories (keyboard and pencil) along with it after attending class on Monday. She's already filed a report with campus security because while she lost it it's being classified as stolen since it's been a few days already with no returns.
I'll be buying another one for her since she needs it for her college courses but my questions are about the claim process. I purchased it in late December for Christmas so it still falls in the 90 day window for lost/stolen items. I know they have an online form for this but it is better to call them? Admittedly I have questions about this process so maybe it's better if I do. The amount of the claim is what's worrying to me as well since it's my first on this card at least and it's quite a bit of money. One thing to claim something like a pair of sunglasses or a watch, another for an expensive electronic device
If anyone has any recent experiences that would be helpful. I'll probably be submitting a claim tonight once I'm off work and buy her a new one tomorrow morning whether the claim comes through or not
I can't remember if this was late 2019 or early 2020 but I left a kick-pedal(purchased on a Plat) at a venue and filed the online claim pretty close to the cutoff date. I think within 48 hours they had issued a statement credit and I wasn't required to show anything other than maybe the receipt.
It was super easy and made me glad I purchased it directly instead of using a gift card through MileagePlusX. Hope this helps!
nice to know that amex plat makes it fairly easy to file claims and get reimbursed
Update!
Realize this is several weeks late but figure it would help anyone else in the future if they have a similar experience
Called AMEX that next day (3/18) and explained what happened. They filed a claim and took all my information as they answered the questions I had about the process. The surprising thing was they told me they didn't need the campus police report just to upload the receipt for the purchase on the claim since they saw the purchase on the Platinum card already. I double-checked with them on this and they said yes. Did it after hanging up and started playing the waiting game
On the following Monday (3/22) the pleasant surprise was seeing the claim credit showing up on my online statement. The real surprise that amazed the bleep out of me was the fact the refunded the ENTIRE purchase for that day and not just the iPad and accessories. We're talking thousands of dollars here. Called them and they confirmed it was correct. So...yeah. Go AMEX?

OK, so need to update my, I mean a friend's, financial plan. Go to a store, buy some expensive but easily resold electronics AND a pack of gum, pay with Amex. Leave the gum on a bench or something and report it stolen. Maybe someone will return it, but if not.......

Sounds like a solid plan to me!
Don't forget to buy the Fruit Stripes gum. That gum is so bad they should be paying you to buy it
