Okay, in high school, way back in the 80's I was an AU on my mom's AMEX green card. She filed a BK in 1990 and this card was included in her BK. She has never had an AMEX since, and I have never bothered to apply for an AMEX since I don't like having to pay all at once.
Today I got my EQ report, and there is an AMEX account on there, from 1988, shows a high balance of $1016, CURRENT BALANCE $1016 and lists my limit as $100. WTF? I am on hold with EQ right now trying to dispute... I saw this happened to someone else last month. Any suggestions? This $1016 is double what my available credit is with the two secured cards I have. Needless to say My FICO is going to suffer.
I thought they couldn't collect on accounts included in BK?
Never had to file so not certain. I have read that Amex will go after the AU's on accounts gone bad, but the whole BK issue is what is bothering me.
Stef, the account was closed in 1990, it even says that on my report. AMEX is full of BS!

WTF! WTF! WTF! WTF!
I have not made any attempt at "activity" on this card since 1989, which is the last time I used it to buy an Alpine stereo for my VW Bug. I remember it because it was the last time I used a CC until this past June when I got my two secured cards.
Now everyone knows my dark secret by the way, the reason I never had credit until this year is because I saw it ruin my mom and dad in the 90's, and never wanted to go through what they did.
Sorry ... that would be EIGHTEEN years.

Pappy, here is the thread that some of the other forum member's posted about this

I would think you could dispute it off as obsolete if you want it gone now. I didn't read through the thread again, so I am not sure what the other's did to solve this.
Equifax was no help. They kept me on hold for 32 minutes (I have a timer on my work phone which shows how long the call is), and then said, Sorry we can't remove this because it shows a DOLA of 10/2008. They made me call AMEX. Which I just did. They will remove it from my reports, but the lady said they have no record of me having this account. I said technically it was my mom's. After 22 minutes on the phone with them explaining everything she removed the account from all three CRA's (apparently it was on EX and TU as well). Said it will take about 72 hours to come off all three.
