AMEX approved! some questions

Been reading these forums the past few months and great information you guys provide! I have been trying to get an Amex BCE for a while now, applied 3 months ago got denied. Since then, I've had 2 mortgage inquiries, and another from Chase that I opened last month. I was scared about 4 inquiries (on Experian) showing within the past 3 months so decided to try for the Zync instead of BCE.

Called in a hour ago, very polite gentlemen asked me the usual questions, then transferred me over to another guy. Asked me to verify my address. At which point I asked which bureau they pulled (Experian) and if he could tell me my FICO. He said he was not allowed to disclose the score but told me I had a 'very excellent score'. I was approved for the Zync with NPSL.  I asked since I was going for the BCE in the first place if they would do another inquiry or use the same one. He told me it would be another pull and to do it again in 24 hours if I wish to do so. I then asked curiously if I would have been approved for the BCE with my score and he said, well sir, you would have been approved for ANY of our products with your score LOL. Darn it!...

My question to you guys is, I've heard they use 1 pull for 2 apps if done in the same day? How should I go about doing the app for BCE? Wait 24 hours like the guy stated or later today? Also, I thought they would provide me with a FICO score? I'm really curious to what my score is now since he said I would have been approved for any of their cards haha.

Congrats on the approval !

In some cases, people who apply for multiple AMEX products within a short period of time will only incur a single hard pull on their EX credit report.    However this isn't always the case, YMMV.      If you wanted to go for the BCE then you could likely just call back in, or apply on~line.   I don't know if either way would be more or less likely to result in another inquiry.

I personally don't feel that inquiries are a huge problem....If I want to apply for a particular card, I'll just take the inquiry and the relatively minor score hit.

Re: AMEX approved! some questions

You said you had 2 mortgage inquiries.

Is there any additional reason why you'd be worried about more inquiries?

Re: AMEX approved! some questions

The 2 mortgage inquiries was for when I was co-signing with my brother and he was shopping around. He no longer needs me to co-sign. I was just scared Amex would deny me for BCE for 4 inquiries in 3 months whereas the Zync seems easier to get. Would you guys recommend me app later today or wait the 24 hours?

If you wait 24 hours then it will definately result in another inquiry.    It may or may not result in another inquiry if you apply sooner....

Today. Tomorrow.

It doesn't make a difference.

I'd just try today if you're decided on doing this.

Re: AMEX approved! some questions

I thought if you applied for a card with American Express, and were approved, you had to wait a minimum of a month to apply again for a different card -- what is the rule on this?

No, you only have to wait 30 days from your last Rejection.....if you are approved you can apply for another card.

Re: AMEX approved! some questions

That sounds more like something Chase would say, not AMEX.

I've seen AMEX posts with people who have applied for different products on the same day.

And not always have the people who applied on the same day, just get hit with 1 INQ for the applications. It's hit or miss.
