It is very weird they are doing AR's for someone who doesn't have a card. But if they are, it probably means you are not blacklisted. I would probably take the chance and app for one of their easier to obtain cards. If approved, I would be sure to pay in full well before the due date. There was one entry on my EX report from 10/20/2013 that actually said: AMEX ACCOUNT REVIEW: 03/23/2013 but it's not on newer reports anymore.
Yup. I pretty much only use what I have to match in the bank. I keep my UTIL low... That way if anything happens, I can PIF everything and not worry about defaults. I learned my lesson LONG ago...
Which credit card would be easiest do you think? I'm not interested in the charge cards. I kinda had my eye on the regular BCE. I also have a Costco business account but from what I'm seeing that's harder and it's only on the network anyway.
Thanks!
The Delta Amex has a reputation as being the easiest credit card to be approved for. But it may not be that useful unless you fly Delta.
You might be able to get the Costco TE card when you apply/renew your Costco membership. I seem to remember reading that it is sometimes offered when you pay for your membership. I was lead to believe it was a pre-approval kind of thing, but I don't shop at Costco.
I suspect the ED/EDP cards are slightly easier to get than the BCE/BCP cards simply due to AE pushing them right now. But all four may have similar underwriting requirements. Before deciding between the BCE and BCP cards, be sure to run the numbers to see which will save you more money.
Of course, the Charge cards are easier (with the possible exception of the Delta) than credit cards.
Edit: I think the SP you used to see is normally related to CO's. But don't quote me, I just remember something about it from an earlier thread.

Yeah, I don't have any CO on EX, just one lingering CA on EQ. Still waiting for them to delete that one. And then what's left on all three is a paid FTB tax lien. It's aged over 6 years now and will die 8/2015.
I don't think Costo TE will backdate but my membership is due in November. Also, ED = Amex Everyday?
Hi Firehorse, don't be afraid to apply for an Amex. Let me share a story. I had an Amex Plat back in 1992 but I fell into hard times and got it was charged off in 1998 with 8K. I thought I never would be allowed to get an Amex ever again. Flash forward 2013, as I started to rebuilt my credit, I saw that Amex kept doing SP on my credit every month and sometimes twice in one week. I thought they were coming after me. To my surprise, I got a pre-approval offer in the mail for a PRG card. I was hesitant about it just because I thought I was blacklisted for life. I decided to take the plundge and apply. Lo and behold, I was approved, and the card was backdated to 1992. This helped my AAoA, which brought my scores to go up. Last month, I applied for the Blue Cash Card and was approved with a $20K limit, also backdated to '92. For a certain amount of years, AMEX forgives; I can attest to that. The reason they do SPs is that they want you back; they are just waiting for the perfect score to issue the invite. Best of luck!

AWWwwwww.... You just gave me all kinds of warm and fuzzies.
Thanks!
NOT BLACKLISTED!!! OMG! I was just INSTANTLY APPROVED for a BCE!!
I was looking at my Experian credit report last month and I noticed Amex soft pulled me in March of this year out of the blue or maybe from me seeing if I prequalify on their site. Last month, I had a huge sucessful app spree and applied for amex green and was instantly approved, i did not have any prequalified offers.
Now amex soft pulls my experian report a lot. i did try the see if your purchase would be approved when I got the card and went low like 1k and it said yes. After my first statement, I tired it again for 8k and it said yes. So im happy with Amex.

Congratulations on getting approved. Now wait to see if they set your MSD to 1995(?). You may need to SM them to have the MSD corrected. Sometimes they don't want to use your old MSD when the account was CO. But I would give it a few days to see if they have the right date first.
Mine is 1994 or 1995. Can't remember which. I applied for a second card to get a bigger bump. Don't know the results on the second. But it's not a big deal if I don't. I didn't take a second hit for it. Added up the open dates to current date in months, divided by number of cards, and then divided by 12 to get a year number. Mine looks like it will be 2.6 AAoA once it's posted.
If I get the second, it'll be 4.5 years. I will have to wait and see what happens. But still... better it to go up than down. I'm eyeing that NASA card and then.... to the garden.
