AMEX low starting CL

I am just curious if you were on their "blacklist" which  my husband and I were defintely on there for about 13 years, do they almost always start you with a low limit?

Now I don't blame them at all I feel very fortunate to be back in with them of course, just wondering if this is the case with them and if so I totally can understand.

I included them in a BK7 back in 2000, so I never even bothered to try applying with them again for many years.

When I finally did reapply in 2015 I was expecting a decline, but they approved my app for a Green card.  I quickly also applied for a BCP (that's what I really wanted anyway) and was also approved, but only for $1k.

A year later I applied for a Delta Gold (which has since then been closed by me) and it was also approved for $1k, so I figured I would be 'stuck' but the BCP eventually got an auto-CLI to $3k, then another auto-CLI to $7.5k.  Last January (2017) I applied for an Everyday, and it was approved for $8k, so apparently I'm finally out of the $1k bucket.

That said, I seem to be ineligible for customer-requested CLIs.  Every time I've requested one I've been declined due to "previous negative experience" (or something to that effect... in any case, it's the card IIBK they're referencing).  Now that my limits are more than sufficient I've not tried in a while (over a year) but I suspect if I were to try now I would likely get the same message as before... they forget nothing.

Hope this helps.  Smiley Happy

*Disclaimer - I'll never complain about my lack of Amex CLIs... I'm genuinely happy to be back at all, and I'm quite fine with my current relationship with them.

Re: AMEX low starting CL

I came out of the blacklist swinging (10 years+). Got approved for an SPG for $8000. Could be because it’s a cobranded card; not sure. I’ve been denied repeatedly over the years. My only other Amex card is a business gold. Tomorrow is day 61though so I’m swinging for the fences. Could be huge.

Thank you all. Yes I am just very happy to be back with them I have a feeling I will be at the 1K limit for awhile and that is okay.

You should be fine.  Try for the 60 day cli and if not, try again at 6 months.  I was denied at 60 and 90 days but finally approved at 6 months.  I have no clue why..

It's their internal list of people who 'burned' them in the past (bankruptcy, charged-off account, etc.).

When somebody who is on the blacklist applies Amex doesn't even pull their credit... the application is just declined.
