AMEX platinum triple dip

Anyone know when is the best time in November/December to apply for the AMEX platinum airline credit triple dip?

dip 1 - this year

dip 2 - next year

dip 3 - following year and cancel right away

They overnight it to you so you don't have to wait long for the card.  You have 30 days when the annual fee hits.  I would think around December 15th would be good as you are supposed to wait a couple of days after setting your airline choice for it to go into effect.  And it takes a couple of days for the credit to go through.  So if you charge on January 1, 2020 and it takes a few days for the charge to be credited you should still be good.

Btw, does the gift card reimbursement trick for American Airlines and Delta in $100 increments still work?

Re: AMEX platinum triple dip

If by triple dip you mean hitting the airline credit 3 times - I assume you mean waiting for the annual fee to drop, then when the calendar year switches you get the new credit, use it, then cancel the card within 30 days of that fee having dropped so that you get reimbursed. Personally I think you're playing with fire there, it's not the same as the double dip because since your 13 months (30 days after 12 months) must span 3 calendar years, you'd have to open in December then can close it the following January (13 months). Since your first year actually ends in December, I'm sure Amex won't take kindly to using a credit during the grace period of reimbursing your annual fee, then requesting your annual fee back on the grounds of the card "not providing value"...as you're actively trying to snake an extra $200 in AA gift cards.

If you want to legit milk it some more, hit the Saks credit a third time and hit the Uber credit a 13th time but open it in December so the Uber credit that's doubled is the $35 December credit. You'll get $500 + $285 that way. Not as good as the $500 + $400 you're looking for but this way is more legit (and efficient). Note I'm not saying what you're talking about definitely will get you in trouble with Amex, it just, to me, sounds like a good way to try to do that.

Hell if you *really* want to milk it get the Ameriprise plat, do all the above, then open another plat and close the Ameriprise - consider the Ameriprise year a giant sign up bonus

Yeah, go ahead and milk them and you won't be getting anymore SUBs with them.

So do it at your own peril and hope it was worth it for a couple of hundred bucks, jeez.....

Re: AMEX platinum triple dip

I tried the $100 Delta gc purchase two months ago and it DID NOT work. Had to go back and redo in $50 increments.

200 dollars is 200 dollars.  If you get the Amerprise version there is no sign up bonus anyway.  I doubt this gets you on the no sign up bonus list.  People are self-refering which seems something much more risky.  This is using the card as designed and then cancelling.  More likely they will just take longer to credit everyone's travel credits to prevent this.

Re: AMEX platinum triple dip

@redpat he's not technically doing SUB abuse and all together I don't think the AA they'd do is prevent him from getting SUBs - I think if they did an AA it'd be that they would just blacklist him. Even for the wheelers and dealers here, trying to triple dip the airline credit is just a little too egregious because you're taking advantage of the annual fee waiver grace period simply to squeeze out the other $200 in travel credits - which, btw, isn't even supposed to be used for gift cards in the first place (which is what I assume it'd be used for in this context). I'd say it's safer to milk the Ameriprise plat for year one then cancel it and open a vanilla plat than to try to just open the vanilla plat and triple dip the travel credit - even though the Ameriprise route will net more rewards

Re: AMEX platinum triple dip

Nothing wrong with taking advantage of what credit cards are offering.  CC companies are also trying to take advantage of consumers' bad personal finance skills.  That's the entire business model.   So it should be looked at as a game to win - the overwhelming vast majority of people lose, so it's nice when a few people can win.

Yes, please always order $50 increments for GC. Worked for me for AA GC!

for OP: I dont know about triple dip. But double dip I think is good enough already, you got $400 GC without red flag from Amex for future relationship with them.
