Hey folks!
I am new here and this is my first topic! I've answered some topics before but now it is my turn to ask for help, haha!
On November 9th (Friday), I was approved for the new Amex Gold card and as you can imagine, I am super excited to actually receive it!
I am really excited to start getting those 4x on dining and at grocery stores! I currently have the sapphire preferred but man, you could not say no to 4x + all the other credits that you get from the new Gold card! By the way, I think its good to mention that this is my first Amex card! I did apply a couple of months ago for the PRG but got denied (my Experian CS was 680 (now 723)), thats when I got the CSP.
Even though I did not get a CC number when I was approved (I've heard that some people get a CC number right of the bat!) I found a way to add my new card to my "apple wallet" (or "apple pay", whatever) through the Amex app and it works just fine, I've used mutiple times and even got my first MR points, haha!
Anyways, I now have two questions!
1st - How long does it take to actually receive the card? Online (throught my account) I can see that its coming via UPS but under "shipping" it says pending. I heard some people saying that, because the rose gold is so popular now, is taking longer for Amex to take care of this high demand of rose gold cards. Any personal experience?
2nd - This is more out of curiosity but do you guys know why some people get CC numbers right after getting approved for the card and some others (like me) have to wait for the actual card? Maybe because this is my first Amex card?
Thank you all for helping me with these questions, I look forward to be part of this community!
Welcome to the Amex family!
For new accounts, it usually takes a bit before the card is actually shipped out. I believe the only way to have it shipped out expedited is if you applied over the phone and request it then (not sure if I'm confusing Amex with another bank).
If you apply online, right after you are approved, the screen will ask you if you want a digital number to use until you get your card. If you skip that screen or say that you don't want the number, you won't be able to access it again.
Cheers.
Generally Amex is about a week with shipping IME. They are not the fastest, but definitely not the slowest (I'm looking at you, Citi ).
That said, this product has been very popular with the refresh so an additional delay wouldn't be surprising. At least you can use the card on Apple Pay in the meantime.
When I got my PRG in August it came UPS Next Day Air Saver. If you got approved Friday, I would expect you to have it sometime today, Tuesday. If you sign up for UPS MyChoice, it will show you all packages being delivered to your address.

It probably wasn't your first Amex though, was it?
I am not a new Amex cardholder. The Gold is my third card with Amex. I applied on 11/3 (Saturday) and got an email on 11/10 saying the card was on its way. It arrived Next Day Air from UPS on 11/12. It arrived in Gold color. I had had to chat with Amex the morning I was approved to get them to do Rose Gold because it never gave me the option. So the Gold one arrived and the Rose Gold hasn't. I also applied for the Blue Business card on 11/3 and have not heard anything about that card being shipped yet.
