APR reduction and surprise bonus from BofA

This week I paid off a once-large balance I had run up on a BofA Travel Rewards card during the initial 12-month 0% APR period. I PIF'ed it just days before interest was scheduled to kick in at 20.99%.  I have learned from MF that BofA will sometimes reduce APRs upon request, so I decided to try my luck with such a request.  (I'm not planning on carrying a balance, but high APRs make me sad.)

I called whatever number the mobile app steered me towards, got a very competent-sounding U.S.-based rep and explained my request. She said there was a group dedicated to these requests and she transfered my call to them. Another top-notch rep took the call and cheerfully told me that she would reduce the APR by 3%. Score! But wait, there's more...

The rep said, unprompted, that I was eligible for a bonus offer. $100 for $1500 of spend in the next two months. It seems like a retention bonus, but I didn't even hint that I was considering closing the card. I have stopped using the card the past few months after several months of daily use, so it makes sense that they want my swipe fees back, but the offer came as a total surprise to me.

I see a lot of people on here complain about BofA's customer service and reps, but I have had consistently good experiences with them. Lately, they've been downright Navy-like!

Thanks! Yep, the SL was $21,000. When the card was 8 months old, I asked for a $9k CLI and got it. That was when I was using it pretty heavily.
