OK braintrust, I have a question for you. We app'ed and got approved for AMEX BCP in January of this year for my wife and added myself as an AU. This is her first AMEX. I had previously been an AU on my parent's AMEX years ago while in college, but got a MSD for myself of Jan 14 (not sure if that is accurate or not). The MSD for my parents was 1984. My question (as well as the MSD question) is whether or not I gain any advantage at all by applying for my own BCP and dropping myself as an AU on my wifes (or keeping my AU on hers, and adding her as an AU to mine). Our EXP scores are identical. Is this even allowed? Any comments or guidance is appreciated.
Yes, it's allowed. Your MSD is locked in from the time you are issued an Amex. It becomes a true benefit when you have your own cc and the MSD backdated your CR's. As an ACM, your CR's will not show your MSD - only your online profile and cc.
So if I apply for my own card and get it issued, what would should my MSD be? 1984, my first AU date from college, 1/14 or 3/14?

March 1984 on your CR's - your MSD will always be 1984
Does it get affected by the fact that my MSD would then be before my Date of Birth?

Wait, I thought your MSD was 1984. Your MSD will be the year in which YOU were added as an ACM. You do not inherit your parents MSD
I was added as an AU to my parents account in 2005/2006ish. Their MSD was 1984. I was removed in 2009 as an AU.
With that said, and based upon what you are telling me...my MSD if i app'ed would be 2005/2006ish? But my MSD as an AU on my wife's can't reflect that?
Sorry, I am getting confused by all the rules.

Ok, let's try this again, you are confusing MSD with 'backdating'
Once you are an Amex cardmember, your MSD is locked. Any additional cc's you are on either as a primary or ACM will reflect the original MSD for the purpose of the date on your cc's and your online profile with AMEX.
Backdating for your CR's occurs if you have an established MSD and you are the primary cardholder.
So, in your example the ACM BCP is correct with Jan 2005/06 as a MSD and Jan 2014 for your CR's.
Once you receive your own cc, that card would have a MSD of MM/2005/06 and a cr date of MM/2005/2006. The MM would be based on the actual app month
Thank you for the clarification. So my AAoA would definitely benefit from app'ing my own card and dropping the AU on my spouse's. I take it that should be worthy of a HP to accomplish that. Would you agree?

Yes it will help but if you are already on your wife's cc, you'd have to dispute the tl as not yours. Personally, I would leave it for now
