How are the starting lines on this card? Is it still $2500 for people outside their state? I've read that one guy had his account closed after a year with no negatives due to the credit union not liking the fact that the person aquired too much new credit. Just wondering if anybody else with the card experienced this? Trying to decide between this and the PNC Cash rewards.
Iv had Abound CU (previously FKFCU) for now maybe 5 yrs or so. I applied and approved from out of state. Never lived in their geography. My original credit limit was 2.5k or 5k (cant remember). Last year asked for credit increase from out of state and they increased it to 10k.
Have you had any problems with the credit union in any way? Do you have to show some kind of activity with their checking or savings account to keep the card open?
Hey bro, I've read that too and I'm still waiting on PNC to finish to conversion with BBVA. I'm going to get the PNC Cash Rewards. It sucks that you gotta wait for it to hit $25 but whatever. Gotta take a loss of $125/y tho. I heard a lot of good reviews about PNC. $625; 4% instead of $500; 5%, not too much of a difference compared to $833 at 3%
What conversion is PNC doing I haven't heard of that before. I would be losing about $15 per year if I chose PNC over a 5% card which isn't much but something. Unless another 5% card comes out before december I may get the PNC but I'd rather have a 5% gas card. Discover and Chase covers Gas for half the year and I don't want to keep buying gift cards for gas for 6 months a year. Technically these 2 cards cover my gas for the whole year but buying gift cards can be a hassle sometimes. I don't want to be 65 years old still hustling for gift cards to save on gas for specific stores.

On that front, the CU has been pretty nice to me. I have little activity on their checkings/savings. it probably has close to the minimum balance sitting on it for years. My only major activity is using the card monthly for gas purchases and auto-pay it from an external CU and likewise the CU has never bothered me about any of my accounts. The only hassle I have faced is my online logins not working occasionally, especially around the time they tranisitoned their website from FKFCU to Abound CU and me having to call to recover log in credentials.
You just gave me good info on the card. I may just wait and get this instead of PNC. I'm trying to get every category 5% and I Know having a 4% gas card would bother me lol Also the extra rotating category would be a bonus that would probably offset not having a sign up bonus.

Just do some search on their app approval chances, especially if you are out of state. From what I remember, recently someone posted either in this forum or DoC that they have stopped accepting apps from out of their geography. Also 5-6 yrs ago, when I had applied, they had this weird requirement for me to send them a scan of my SSN card (yea just providing my SSN number wasnt enough) they prolly thought I was an illegal or something due to my name or something lol. i felt weird as no bank has ever asked me for a scan of my SSN card, but I obliged as the reward was getting 5% discount on gas for life

The requirement to provide a scan or photo of your Social Security card is pretty typical nowadays when applying online for credit union membership.
It is very hard finding recent info on this card. If you find something solid saying they stopped accepting out of state apps let me know.
