Hello everyone-
So I'm currently sharing my Amex Blue Cash everyday with my sister and we are both making monthly payments on it. I added her to help her build her credit and she's now ready to apply for her own credit card. However, before we separate, I'd need her to pay off her current balance. The issue is that with the Amex Blue Cash, there's no way to tell how much exactly she owes since the current balance that shows when she logs in in her online account is the total balance that we both owe on the card. I called Amex several times and even spoke with a manager. They can't seem to figure out what her balance is! They keep sending me to my statement but it only shows the balance for the previous month, not her actual total credit card balance.
I don't want to have to pay for her transactions so I need to figure out what her balance is. Does anyone know how I can do this?? Also is this an issue with Amex only or is it common for credit card companies to not show the balances separately?
Thanks guys for your inputs!
Lexi
My AMEX Blue Cash everyday card will put a letter "D" (his first initial) next to the transactions where my husband used his card. Under the Statements & Activity tab, if I click the little drop down that looks like a person, I can view my husband's transactions for the current statement and prior statements. If you go into the trends summary, there are selections for 2017 year end summary, and you can sort that by card user. The only thing I could think to do is add up all the AU's transactions and subtract the total she has paid to the card....I would assume that for most cards they do not calculate the balances separately, as the original account holder is ultimately responsible for the balance, and not the AU...
Back in the "really really old days," you used to get a copy of the charge slips in your monthly statement

Yes, Amex makes it easier than most because of the different account numbers. In table view, you can select which card member and it will show the transactions and totals for each user.

The other replies are spot-on.
Amex does separate the charges based on which card made the purchase, but after a balance is carried over (i.e. the next month) only the combined balance is displayed.
To get what you're looking for you will need manually separate who bought what, either statement-by-statement or by using a custom report from the website (I've not used this feature in a while... you'll have to check it out to see if the options suit your needs). Depending on how far back you have to go it might be tedious, but it's not impossible.
Side note: I'm not aware of any card that carries forward a separate running balance (month after month) of the total charges made with an AU card.
