Amazon Prime Visa vs Amazon Prime Store Card

Hey all,

DW and I have been spending a little more on amazon and plan to keep doing so. I’d like to get one of these cards, but I’m unsure which is the better choice.

I currently am 6/24, so that brings the Amazon Prime VISA into an unknown due to it being backed by Chase. I know there are some DPs that point to 5/24 not being 100% set in stone, but why waste a HP.

Are there any benefits to one vs the other? Is the one backed by Synchrony just as good? They both are 5% back on amazon purchases, and that’s mostly the reason I want one of these.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Amazon Prime Visa vs Amazon Prime Store Card

I actually have both. I love the Visa version because of course you earn points when buying groceries at like Costco and eating out. The store card I love because you get a couple of payment options on purchases for like mattresses and fridges, like 6/12 month 0% interest financing on larger purchases, or you can get 5% from your purchases. So if you have the ability to get both, they both are good depending on what you buy.

Re: Amazon Prime Visa vs Amazon Prime Store Card

I have the Amazon Store Card and I have no complaints. Synchrony cards are easier to get with the lack of any sort of solid credit seeking rules and they are easy to grow as well. The only real downside I see between the two is for people who shop at Whole Foods, there is no 5% back with the ASC.

Re: Amazon Prime Visa vs Amazon Prime Store Card

The Amazon Prime Signature Visa card gets 4.1 stars out of 5 on Amazon's own site. This is out of a little more than 35,000 reviews. But, I see a lot (a whole lot!) of one star, negative reviews citing a whole litany of complaints about the card. I've been thinking of getting it once I come out of the garden, but I'm wondering if anyone here has had negative experiences with the card.

You can do that with tha Chase Visa as well. No need to get both.

Re: Amazon Prime Visa vs Amazon Prime Store Card

I had both for a while before eventually closing them when I got the AmEx Prime Business card. I did like the Chase Amazon Visa card more than the Synchrony offering, especially when the Prime benefits were updated. It felt more complete, and also offered rewards/benefits outside of Amazon (no FTFs, several insurance coverages), although I had better cards for those categories. At the time of closing, I believe the Prime benefits for both cards were nearly identical, so the Chase card simply went above and beyond what the Synchrony card could offer outside of Amazon. Admittedly, I really don’t like Synchrony, so I do have a tendency to recommend the Chase Visa card over the store card, if it’s a possibility.

Lastly, I read some of the reviews on Amazon for the Chase card a while back, and I suspected many of them were disgruntled applicants who were either denied or didn’t receive favorable terms. Some of the reviews were absolutely ridiculous.

Re: Amazon Prime Visa vs Amazon Prime Store Card

I have the visa card, and frankly, it has been okay. rewards are good, and redeeming them is easy.  I did notice about a year ago maybe, you can elect for rewards or interest promos.

I already had two sync cards at the time I applied for the Chase card, and already had one chase at the point. I elected the chase card as the apr would have always been better. But my cards like everyone else's are limit locked at chase. No increases, or etc and I always figured I was likely at my max.

I suggest the sync card if chase is out of your grip. You will likely be approved and get the $25k limit after a phone call.

Re: Amazon Prime Visa vs Amazon Prime Store Card

I won't be under 5/24 until 2021, so I've thought about getting the Prime Store card instead of waiting for the Chase Prime. The higher potential limit with synchrony seems nice, but I'd prefer the Chase card.

Re: Amazon Prime Visa vs Amazon Prime Store Card

Thanks everyone for the opinions.

I actually have never stepped foot in a Whole Foods, so that perk for the Visa is not anything special to me.

The visa benefits are covered through some of my other cards.

It seems that the store card may be the better choice for me, as it does what I need it to do.
