I think it will be a while before Amex approves you for a CLI. People approved with low limits are put into some kind of bucket that makes them ineligible for many of the CLI rules that apply to everyone else.

My scores are in the mid 700s, income 250k, PIF several times a month. - Amex considers the payment size so best to pay $1000 a couple times than in $100 increments.

I don't know what constitutes a low limit. I started with the Delta Gold and a $1500.00 limit. My scores were all mid 600s. 61 days later I was at $4500.00, three years later I was at 33.8K. If I was ever in a bucket, it had a leak in it and Amex doesn't know.

Seems like you have come a long way!   So a final piece of advice:   NEVER "fall in love" with an issuer like this.    Amex has good cards and bad cards, as do other issuers.  There is NO loyalty from an issuer and they don't deserve or require loyalty from you.   Evaluate which card(s) make most sense at any point in time, and ignore (mainly anyway!) which commercial entity issues them

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Amex could care less that you think they are #1. All Amex cares about is making money with you either through the number of swipes or the interest they make off of you.

I cannot stress this enough myself. If you don't believe it, just Google all the horror stories from Amex card holders who had their cards closed without warning or their limits decreased to their balance and when the balance was paid the card was closed. This happened during the crash of 08. These were cardholders who had a great relationship with Amex, had stellar payment history, and pushed a whole lot of spend through their cards. Amex cut their feet out from under them in an attemp to prevent any losses on their part then turned right around and applied for, and received TARP moneies.

And, wanting to grow your card to "the highest ever" is very ambitious on your part; however, growing the card takes a whole lot more than just desire. Discipline, income, and time.

I tired for charge card and was declined. I heard the lowest they start at is $500.00 so at least I didn't start at the bottom lol.

approved Delta revolver but declined Gold charge?! interesting.

It was the green Charge!  Should I have applied for the gold Charge?

No, they should be same underwriting.

I have no idea what the highest limit is on co-branded  cards like your AMEX, but my BCE is $22k, however I've seen (I believe) $35k on a regular AMEX...but again no idea how high they go wiith co-branded cards

Re: American Express Details

I believe that if I put all my credit card purchases on 1-2 cards a year (Amex and Discover), I will build a great relationship with them.  I charge between personal and business at least 75k a year and PIF monthly. You don't think those credit card companies will reward me with amazing limits??  We are not talking about a bank like first premier or Credit One. We are talking about Amex and Discover here.

Well, $75K a year between two cards is not an amazingly huge amount, and I would expect many Amex card holders to spend more, especiially as you are including business in there.

But yes, they might give you high limits.   But what are high limits really worth?

Understand, issuers don't reward people by handing out credit limits (amazing or not). You get the limits that your credit profile supports. For instance I have 37K total exposure with Citi (4 cards with 2 being store cards), 36.5K with Discover (1 card), and 34K with Amex (Delta Platinum) and I also have the Plat charge card. Can you see the pattern in my limits? I also have a Barclays Visa that has been stuck at 24.6K for years and a U. S. Bank Visa stuck at 14K. Each lender is different. I use 1 Citi and my Amex Plat all the time. I hardly ever use the others.

Good luck with your endeavors but I really do think that you have unrealistic expectations of how lenders operate.

What do you mean unrealistic expectations?  I went from 0 credit to almost 30k in about a year.  I had high 400 credit score to low to mid 600 range.  I did everything this group told me not to do.  I apps non stop, I used credit repair (Had over 200 bads across 3 reports) , I have a bunch of low limit cards.  Each time I get an approval it is for higher than the last.  Help me understand... Most of my cards are hitting year mark and they are all giving me CLI.  What do you mean?

Maybe we don't have the same understanding of "amazing limits"  What do you mean by it.  As a data point, I got my first Discover in Feb 2015, with a CL of either $12K or $13K (forget which).   I put $110K of spend on it the first year, and my final limit is $19K, which, IMO, is neither an amazing limit or amazing growth

WOW. That is a bunch to spend to have them only give 19k. I have 29k over 35 cards. I would like to have 50k over 25 cards by the end of the year then 100k over 15 cards by the end of 2017.

I agree, in principle, with no loyalty, but I'd be best man at Discover's wedding if they asked

You like Discover more than Amex?  Why?

For me, better cash back, better customer service, and the balance transfer offers have been helpful in paying off some debt I accumulated relocating and being temporarily unemployed last year while I moved.

I've gotten great value from AmEx, and I especially love Centurion Lounge, but I'd lean Discover if I had to choose between the two. Luckily I don't!
