American Express Product Change

I know that this is a fairly common discussion topic on these forums, but I have not been able to find an answer to this.

I have two potential PCs that I'm wondering about.

The first one I'm wondering about is for a friend. I'm usually his go-to person for these kinds of issues, but he opened the Plenti Amex without consulting me. I definitely wouldn't have advised him to get that card, because I think Amex's other no-AF rewards offerings are better. He sees this, and I'm wondering if this card could eventually be PCed to another NO-AF rewards card, like BCE or ED. If so, how long would my friend have to wait?

This issue got me thinking about a case of my own. I have a BCE card that was pretty much made redundant by my ED card, and I think a PC is a good option for my BCE card. Looking at the options, I think the (no-AF) HHonors card would be the best option for me. Is this a PC I'd be able to do?

Re: American Express Product Change

Not sure on the Plenti but because it's co-branded with their points program it's probably going to be an app for a new BCE and then once it hits 1 year combine the limit into the BCE and close the Plenti.

You moving from BCE/ED to anything else that's co-branded isn't going to work either.  If you moved from cashback to cashback or MR to MR it works.  Even if you wanted to move from ED to BCE it wouldn't be a PC in the sense that you would end up just moving the limit over since AMEX doesn't allow switching rewards programs.  The same goes for converting between charge and revolver.

If you find Pooka89 - http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/859258 though as she works for AMEX and can give a definitive answer to both.

Also, looking at the limits / dates in your signature you would probably want to go ahead and 3X CLI one of those cards before the combo.

Unfortunately the Plenti Card cannot be product changed at this time. I further do not foresee it being able to be product changed anytime in the near future. I hope this helps.

I did recently try to get my limit increased on the BCE, but it was denied. It might have been because Amex just gave my ED an auto-CLI from $10k to $12.4k, but my limits are also very high for my annual income ($12k).

Thank you! Would I be able to PC BCE to HHonors, or is it the same story?

You cannot product change between different reward programs. BCE can only go to BCP and vice-versa.

Not that I can think of.  3x on groceries up to 6k/ yr 2x dining 1x everything else.  Especially now with the plenti transfer 50% bonus ending 12/31 you'd be able to get 6.75x via the EDP on groceries, limitless 3x on groceries, gas, and dining, plus 6x on airfaire on the PRG, and 7.5 on airfare w/ the plat (not taking AFs or other credits into account)

Plenti is a very niche thing.  If you have access to riteaid it would certainly be an easier thing to always have but again, even post transfer bonus promo, the other MR cards aren't too shabby. You can earn plenti points pretty easily just by linking your grocery store card....but nope, those household offers are being discontinued. I wondered how long those were going to last.... it seemed like every plenti grocery offer I added, there was a nearly identical offer I could add to my grocery store card. It's a shame they did that.

Since I am mildy hoarding points right now it has been a nice holiday feature to redeem some MR's for plenti, got quite a few deals where you spend $9.99 at macys on burts package and not only get cash back portal bonus, but $10 macys cash as well and can use 5 of those at once!!!

I don't know if you can use plenti points at att without benig a customer, for example buying a phone at full retail? I think acessories you can.

Anyway back to topic at hand it sure does suck when your friends do not consult first!

I think it's inferior to just about all Amex's other rewards cards, except maybe Blue and Blue Sky (we can't forget that those cards exist, lol). It's sort of like BCE (just replace the gas/department store category with restaurants), except you can only use that money in certain places (and not collect any credit card rewards on that use- which diminishes the value by 1-10% right there); you can rarely get more than a cent per point out of Plenti points from what I've seen. The rewards aren't bad, but I see absolutely no reason to get it instead of BCE.

Plenti is a decent rewards program for what it is, but I don't think it works as a platfrom for CC rewards.
