Amex 2-factor authentication

Is this new? I have been forced to do this for the past 2 or 3 weeks. Is everyone getting this request for a verification code when they attempt to log in?

No. I'm not. With either the Android app or web browser on a computer. What are you using? Have you tried both, i.e., your phone's app and a browser on a computer?

Has anything changed lately, like using a new device? Are you travelling by any chance?

I only use the desktop version. No new device. I'm not traveling. Even though my ISP gives me a new IP every once in a while, I don't believe that I got a new one recently. And, this request for a new code happens multiple times in a day, even if I log in, log out, and try to log in right after that. I already reached out to Amex and they said that they'd look into it, but I didn't believe them LOL. I just wanted to see if it was just me. Thanks.

Re: Amex 2-factor authentication

I don't see any 2FA requests on iPhone (app) or Windows desktop (Firefox).

The same thing happens to me with ADT. Ugh. But not Amex. Since it's not happening to me, and we don't see an onslaught of posts from others about it, I'm guessing it's just you. The old tried-and-true method of deleting your browser's cache and cookies, closing and restarting it, may be worth a try. If that doesn't help, there are more things to try but they depend on operating system and browser.

If you try the above and it still happens, please post again. In the meantime, if you have the app already installed, or are willing to install it, I'd try it and see what happens. If it does *not* happen there, it strongly points to an issue with your computer/browser.

On the 2FA page, there is a box you have to put a check into, to "remember device". Are you doing that?

Re: Amex 2-factor authentication

I've never had 2FA at all from Amex.  Whether it's the app, website on my phone browser, or desktop browser on one of the 4 home or work computers I use from time to time.  I actually find it convenient, if not unusual, that I can log into Amex with my user ID and password from seemingly any device without ever being prompted to enter a code from a text or email.

You're not using a VPN by chance?

Under Account Services>Security and Privacy, there is an option to "Manage Two-step verification"  Try to see if it is enabled there, you can also turn it off

As mentioned, you can also get Amex to trust the computer so it shouldn't ask again.

Now, very silly question!   Are you really talking about Amex, or about MyFico, which has indeed started a 2FA a few weeks ago that doesn't remember devices very long?

Woohoo! You guys are awesome! That was annoying me bc I check my accts a lot and the site logs you out after a few mins. LOL.... I don't know if this was the issue, but I had the same device name listed twice and only one of them was labeled as the "current" device. I told the site to forget all devices. I logged out, logged in again, and checked the 'remember me' box again. It asked for a verification code. I've logged in and out a few times and was only prompted for a code during the first log in. Even the page that asks for the verification code is back to normal. Now that I think about it, before, it listed my contact info twice, once for each of the duplicate devices. Thanks again!!
