I just opend a Delta gold skymiles. In 1995 I was like 21 and had just a few credit cards. Like a Wards card, and 1 or 2 more cant remember. This perosn I worked with talked me into applying for a Amex Green. Well the card came and I was still living at home & my Mom took it, and said I did not need anymore credit. So that was that. The card was never even used. So I ended up screwing up my credit on the other cards, but not the Amex. So while i had the Amex agent on the phone I told her about it. She said I will submit a request & get the date changed to 1995, she then said ok done you will get your new card with the 1995 member date in 7-10 days. I said will I have to try and find the acc # etc? She said no its done. So is it really that easy? I dont even think i had the chance to even activate it b4 mom took it away from me. Looks like my mom did me a favor cause i would of screwed it up also. Young and dumb lol

It's that easy.
I applied for an Amex Optima as a college student in February of 1998. My CL was stuck at $500. I had convinced every other lender to CLI, except them. I cancelled the card. In 2005, I filed for BK Ch 7, discharging around $30K in revolving debt. I've been actively rebuilding for a while, but in March, I decided to try again for an Amex and was approved for the BCE. Before I even got my card with the 2014 MSD, I talked to an agent via chat and asked if my MSD could be corrected to 1998. By the next morning, it was updated and my new "98" card was expedited to me. I got my "98" card before my "14" card! Gotta love AMEX
Thats awsome! Congrats... What did it do for your credit score & AAOA? My online Member still say 2014, but its only been a few hours since I called them..

I had opened 3 other new TLs when I opened that one, so the increased AAoA helped offset my new credit ding and HP dings from those accounts.

Depends on how thick you file is. IMO I would focus on a couple more amex cards if you intend to add more accounts. It will really help for automated approvals as you will add multiple accounts with 20 years of history, under manual review a CSR will see the card is new due to no reporting prior to when you opened the account. I did delta, costco TE and PRG. My file is pretty thick but it still added a couple of years to my AAoA. After the three Amex accounts were updated I got some really nice automated approvals on the next spree. As always it depends on what you are trying to achieve. One thing is for sure, when rebuilding the ability to add lines with 20 years of history is a key advantage for getting back in the game.
Congrats!
Thanks guys for the great info.. Im excited to be with Amex! I would trade all my cards to be with them & my CSP! I got both cards this last week. On a side note, I had to call to activate my Amex, and the first agent I talked to tried to blow me off. She said oh no we dont really do that, cause its a new card or somthing like that. So I hung up & a few minutes later had to call back b/c I was locked out of online. I asked her about it also and she said let me see what I can do. She was very nice and friendly.
Ok on the same subject of backdating, I apped for my Amex in Dec 28 2013. But my "member date" is 2014... Could I still get the MSD 2013??? that would be awesome if i could lol

When were you approved? If your account was created in 2013, then it should reflect 2013 online. If so, you can ask for a card replacement. If you apped for but your account wasn't created to 2014, then your MSD will remain as is- 2014

Have you pulled your CR's recently? If so, it should have an open date of 12/2013
