Amex CL transfer question

I have an ED card that I really have no use for so I'm planning on closing it. It had a CL of around 20k. Not that it really matters, but when I opened it about half of that came from CL they took from one of my existing cards.

I want to avoid losing any more CL than I need to when I close it, so I've been transferring CL to other cards using the tool on their web site. The first transfer of 10k went fine. I then went to transfer as much as I could to another card, the page asking how much I wanted to transfer would not allow me to enter an amount leaving less than $500 on the ED card, so that's what I requested. The request came back denied  due to "remaining CL would be too low". I tried again leaving $2k on the ED, and that one went through. Since you have to wait 30 days between requests, I still have a few days before I can try again. Any ideas how much I need to leave on the ED if I try again? Or should I just not worry about losing 2k of CL that I really don't need?

Re: Amex CL transfer question

The minimums seem to be YMMV and vary depending on the card.  You may be looking at a $1000 minimum.  You can always call or chat for assistance with it.  Just to confirm, there is no balance at all on the card?  That will always play a factor if any of the credit line is being used, including for authorizations that have not cleared.

Re: Amex CL transfer question

I got that card for BT, but it was paid off over a year ago and not used since. I may try a chat or just see if it will let me go to 1k. At least I've already moved 90% of the CL to other cards so not too big of a hit if they don't let me transfer more.
