Amex CLI question

Originally requested an CLI upon activation... declined. I checked with a customer service rep and she said yesterday would have been my 90th day since my original decline begining of Dec. So I tried today. I recieved an email saying a decision was made and to call in. Of course that dept is closed.... I chatted with someone they said it was pending. After reading online I found a way to check the status online. The only reason listed in the letter was "You were declined for a credit limit increase on one or more of your American Express Cards in the last 90 days." I do have another card that I tried about a week after the original. So I guess maybe they go by the last time you requested an increase on any of your accounts period? Also will this reset the clock?

Re: Amex CLI question

being that today was 91 days then yes your clock resets. and they SP you periodically and their SP could be two months old overall so it's hard to say. they have gotten a little fickle with CLIs. don't stress over it.

That's not quite correct.  If the reason for this last denial was that the OP was within the 90 day period and therefore ineligible for a CLI, the clock doesn't reset and they can try again now that they have reached day 91.  Anytime you try too early, it doesn't reset the clock.

Re: Amex CLI question

He said he tried on what the CSR said was day 90 (you need to wait till day 91) and the decline reason was that they tried too early so he/she wasn't eligible for a CLI when they tried.  Someone miscounted the days.

I know what they said but if the decline reason was that they tried too early, that's all that matters.  They just need to try again tomorrow or the next day when it's clearly past 91 days.
