I was approved for Amex card earlier this month and so was my wife. After we were approved, It offered to give me the account number right away which I did. I thought that was pretty cool. I figured that happened for everyone. Then I was talking with a few friends at work and they said that was not offered to them. I was just curious. Is that only offered to certain people?

My first Amex, which was an ED, I was issued my account number and temporary 4-digit number for online purchases. The 4-digit number didn't work though, but I did use the temp card number on Amazon. My second card, BCE, they didn't issue a temp number.
This is an interesting thread... I wasn't given the number for any of my Amex accounts. ![]()
FWIW, my BCP and Delta Gold were auto-approved; the PRG had me to call in for verification (I wouldn't have expected to get a number for it).

My first two Amex cards I applied for were done within 15 minutes of each other (Green Card and EveryDay CC) and I was given an instant number for both of them as well as a 4 digit security code and the temporary expiration. My better half was given the same thing for the PRG.
I received the instant number on my BCE (my first Amex card; applied online), but not on my Everyday card (applied over phone). Convenient perk though
