My first and only AMEX thus far was the TrueEarnings (Costco) card that I acquired in 2013, which was transferred over to Citi as the Costco Anywhere Visa in 2016. If I were to ever apply for a new AMEX card, would my 'Member Since' date be 2013 despite my first card being co-branded? Anyone else have the TrueEarnings card as their first AMEX?
@Anonymous wrote:"Member since" should mean just that. If you lapsed your "membership" then you haven't been a member since your first card. As membership (and service) is an important concept to AmEx I don't understand why you would be considered a member if you volunterily quit the program and then came back. To my knowledge there's no particular importance attached to the "member since" value on the card other than vanity.
I know this is old but I don't care... (unrelated rant)
I hate when car companies do this. The Camaro was dead for years...yet somehow it had a "50th Anniversrary" in 2017. No it died in 2002 and was relaunched in 2010, that means its 50th wouldn't be until 2024...Chevy shouldn't be allowed to "backdate" the cars complete lack of existence and then claim "The half-century mark is an anniversary only a few cars have managed to achieve" blah blah blah...It didn't achieve that though...It wasn't around for 8 freaking years. It was cancelled. The Mustang only just gets past this because Ford did have a Mustang in the 1970s even if it did come with an addendum...haha. Be that as it may the Mustang name has never missed a year since the very start. Camaro though...nah fam you just made 50 years...and they're about to be cancelled again too. January 2024 the "last" camaro (and proper 50th Anniversrary) will be built...again.
Anyway end of my rant.
Back on track...if you weren't a member for 10 years I don't think you should be allowed to claim "member since" including those years you weren't really a member either. It's kind of wishy washy to say the least.

Right, but since it has no actual impact since CRA backdating was stopped..... It only matters to
1) those that think people will a) notice and b) have any reaction to, the Member Since date on the 2312th card they are handling that day. And they won't be using mobile pay because people need to see the date!
Or
2) Those that look at their own card and are impressed.
In either case, there is a reasonable argument that such people are beyond help anyway, so changing the rules won't really matter
Agree that it's meaningless. The only time anybody seems to notice is at Centurian Lounges where there are trained to say thanks for being a valued member since xxxx.

This thread just needs to die probably lol
I had an original Amex date of 2003...closed with my divorce in 2008. Applied again in 2016, new card issued with 2003. The 2003 was my name alone, the new card is my name alone...just in case yours was different.
You got a divorce from amex? Did you get a chase card and they used for alienation of affection?
@Rogue46 wrote:Nobody sees the "member since" anyway,
It is however nice being greeted with "thank you for being a long time member of Amex" when you call in.
Because you can ask for CLI at 90 days a long term member is the same. ![]()
