Hey one other thing, is there a general floor on the spending limit for the PRG? Or does it tell you when you get the card?
Not a floor but a ceiling... and you can check spending power whenever you like.
ETA: It is dynamic and will vary with your spend (the more you spend, the higher your allowed spending limit)
I just meant floor as in a limit they don't go any lower than.
Ok, sounds good, thanks guys

Not sure but you can sometimes call them up and they will approve a large purchase if your spending power is low that month (they did for me).
I have to be honest here
This offer sucks in so many aspects
If you read it carefully
Get 40k after 2k spend .....Ummm hmmmm whatever
Get 25k in the second year ....Are you crazy here (really)
Lets examine this:
Well known fact you can get the 50k for 1k spend which has you up 50k the first 90 days + the 1k spend
= at the lowest numbers 51k
Adding an AU will get you 5k in 90 days
New total 56k
Guess what if you bite on this offer you wont get the 25k bonus points until ....wait for it .....
You pay the AF the 2nd year...... Aaaaaa didn't see that one coming did you?
So actually you're paying $195 for 25k points ....who comes up with theses offers ...oh yeah a bank
I won't waste my time with the calculation of the value of each point...do the math and see what you pay per point
What's worst is who excepts these offers....(sorry)
So if it were me cause I look at the entire picture and numbers
I could probably do far far better in the course of the year and end up with more than 65k points much easier and pay no AF
Then cut my losses if I don't feel the card is worth it and not for 40k on an extra 1k spend ....Duh
yeah I am definitely going to get it with the 50k MR / 1k spend bonus. To be more tempting it would just need more MR up front without making the spend too crazy. 100k MR / 3k spend on the Platinum is just fine, for example.
Adding an AU will get you 5k in 90 days
huh? prg au add is 2500 or did I miss something?
thx

I have to disagree, you are forgetting the $100 airline credit. Also, if you are going to keep the card and not churn it and spend isn't an issue it is a good deal.
Amex is giving individuals that keep their cards an opportunity to have an additional bonus in the second year. I'm looking at this card as a keeper so I'll take 65k over 50k and wait for my points no big deal for some.

Didn't even factor the $100 in nor was I saying you should ditch the card ....I have it and just paid my AF 3 daays ago
In fact the air credit can be applied twice for a $200 credit in the first year but the point is...
You can still make out much better w/o this offer and come out far better with less spend
IMHO you are correct the offer is designed for the card to be retained in the second year but you also have to factor in that not everyone will keep the card after the test drive and it has nothing to do with being a churner or not that person will get 40k bonus points plus whatever they spend
Which is far less than the person who gets the 50k offer + spend
Forgot to add those 25k points the 2nd year like any other reward system could be nurfed by then and be of less value and you still paid $195 for them
Just my .02 tho

I want this card and plan to keep it. Amex EDP is our personal spend card, everything goes on it (except cell & cable) and by adding the PRG will enhance the accumulation of MR points so having to meet spend would never be an issue with me because it's regular spend anyway.
This why this offer can be good for someone like me.
I just can't get the offer to come up in incognito.
