I know a lot people don't like using travel portals and prefer booking directing with the airlines or a hotel. But I've had a great experience using the C1, Bilt and US Bank travel portals, and so far no big issues. All of the flights I have book on the portals have been the same price as the airlines. And I have even booked hotel that was cheaper on C1 travel portal.
I have been really enjoyed booking on the Bilt portal as it allows me to earn Bilt Points & Spend, and CB/points on my linked credit card. Last month I used the BOA Premium Rewards to book flights on United, Avianca and Turkish airlines and earning 4x (1x Bilt point and 3x BOA points). I don't have the Bilt Mastercard so it is nice to earn Bilt points since the points have good value.
When I checked my BOA activity on the flights purchased on the Bilt portal, all of the flights posted as the airline and not Bilt nor Expedia. It got me wondering since the Amex Platinum earns 5x MR points on purchase booked directly with airlines, if the Platinum would earn 5x on Bilt's portal? I don't have the Platinum so I can't test it but does anyone tried it before?
Regarding the hassle of using the portal. I needed to cancel a flight I booked through Bilt. I called Bilt travel and was connected to a rep within a few minutes and they helped me cancel for a full refund. I haven't received the refund yet but the rep stated it would arrive in 3 - 5 days. I also received a confirmation email stating it would return in 72 hours. I canceled the booking within 24 hours.
Chances are no and I guess I'll never know because I only book airlines direct for many reasons.
I get it avoiding travel portals. I have always book directly with United over the years.
only thing im comfortable using portals for is Hotels and rental cars.
I think so. I booked a Jetblue flight a few days ago with Amex Plat and it posted as the airline itself and got 5x points. (I havent got Bilt points yet because the flight is in July.)
Awesome. Thanks for sharing the data point.
