Re: Amex Zync in limbo

Ha, thanks everyone.  Bad news is I was denied as I figured I would be.  Pretty big bummer that they burned through all 3 of my bureaus first though.  Here is what they said:

Your FICO? score (See below)

Account(s) not paid as agreed. (Trans Union)

Too many recent credit checks (Trans Union)

Number and type of accounts opened recently (Trans Union)

My TU FICO (the only one they listed) was 658.  Not terrible, but about 50 points lower than my other two.  I'm sure it was mostly the baddies though.  I will just try to clear up my TU report as much as possible and garden.  I'm hoping to try one more time with Amex before 2012 is over so I can get a backdating date in 2012.  Inquiries will still be on my report, but will be 8-10 months old by then.  I will have 3 new cards though that are starting this month, so I may not get approved until next year with Amex.  Long term goal now, and all the more reason to work even harder.  Thanks again everyone!

Re: Amex Zync in limbo

That's too bad they wanted to pull all 3.

But Amex will sometimes pull all 3 and approve.  When I got my Gold card a couple years ago Amex pulled all 3 and gave me an instant approval.  So it was worth taking a chance and letting them pull TU, I'd say.

Re: Amex Zync in limbo

At least you now know exactly where the denial stemmed from and what you need to work on with TU. If you're able to get those issues cleared up before the end of the year, I'd say you'd probably be approved at that time. I was really hoping  you'd be one of the rare exceptions with AMEX but that it was slim.  They really do not like collections showing, it's rather rare for them to approve with even 1 listed on a report, some manage to get approved with them, it's just a bit rare.

There is also the chance with gardening a couple new accounts until later this year, AMEX might only pull EX for an instant approval (just a heads up, though you'd still want to do  your best to clear up TU just in case).

Bingo.

Exactly this.

I'd say, this was a GREAT experience because the next time you app, they won't be able to say any of those previous things they did today.

And yeah, they pull from EXP for me. Just got my letter today.

I cant believe they would go through all this just to deny you :/

Maybe they were borderline decision and decided to give him the benefit of the doubt by pulling all his records. Perhaps they hoped to find more favorable stats, but ultimately, it was not what they wished to see, so they had no choice but to deny. Good thing is, like someone said before, they can't use those reasons again, especially if  the situation is rectified before reapplying.
