Just curious was looking at my Amex accounts and seeing what offers Amex has. Pre covid, you could check personal loans, amongst other lending options but thats all gone now. Find it curious that when looking at requesting a cli, the language pops out more in your face that to make sure your stated income is up to date and legit as they may verify and if it doesnt match could alter your entire relationship. I know thats common sense but definetly seems more stressed as i guess they know many have lost their jobs or income. I left it alone since they basically told me im too poor with too much debt last try but just thought id share.
Agreed, there "on website" while logged in promotions have certainly come to a halt for me as well. Seemed like every day I was preapproved for a personal loan, business cards or BCE and BCP. Now when I click lending options, I get taken back to my existing accounts. I don't need anything but the stark contrast to the daily thwart of approvals to today is different.
I remember reading about them creating a new card that was supposed to be slotted above Platinum and below Black. That card was due out earlier this year and obviously has been halted for the forseeable future. I was kind of excited to see what they were going to offer so I let all those other approvals go by...waiting to see what this new card was going to be.
Tick Tock Tick Tock
I used a CLI slot in August to bump up my Marriott card from $15k to $20k. Didn't notice the language too much.
I could see where this is another indication that banks are scrutinizing the unsecured loans more closely. It makes business sense to manage that risk. I realize I'm very fortunate, and there's a lot of people struggling because of this crisis.
What i find intersting is that while the BT's have dried up on just about all but Disco and CU's, every CC I have still allows Cash Advance and has not lowered those limits at all.
I havn't looked at Amex in a while, but I do still get promotional offers to apply for various cards whenever I'm there. Since I'm at my 5 revolver limit I havn't even thought about applying yet, not until I decide which slot to sacrifice. Thye're definitely pushing the referrals though.
Also haven't tried for a CLI because idon't really need one, and my spend clearly shows it. So I don't see the point on going for one right now.

This, i know my spend doesnt even qualify my limits and yeah they are pushing referrals. I like Amex but it seems they want to take away all the lending options but still want us to use their cards or get others to join. I think i could survive with 1 Amex card but for now ill keep what i have
Hadn't heard about the HP's apping yet, though in all honesty I feel a HP is fine and should be expected for new accounts. CLI's where I get a little more anti HP, though I know some people feel it should be the same HP regardless of new credit or simply a CLI.
