I don't have any double dip experience. I'm not sure how auto CLI and customer requested CLI are viewed.

Perhaps more experienced members can chime in.

Not sure either. I never got an auto CLI from amex, however was successful requesting one twice through the website, SPs.

The wife has great credit, around 800 with the only debt being an on time mortgage. Credit cards are paid in full. She had 20k with Amex everyday card and they lowered it to 3k. Nothing new in the reports they are in great shape.

they also slashed my brothers limit from 10k to 2500. He's never paid late either so it appears Amex may be protecting things

dont want to spread a false rumor since it could just be a coincidence, figured I'd ask if anyone else had it happen the past few days?

This is interesting.  I posted about Amex removing all my pre-quals for their cards (just yesterday).  Nothing in my credit profile has changed, in fact, my score has actually gone up since my first card.  I use to be pre-approved for all the co-branded cards and now I have the "expand your membership" message on all cards.

Maybe this is related.  Mostly likely they've tightned their purse strings and are going conservative with existing credit and new applications.

Interesting. This made me check and my preapproval are still there.

Re: Amex may be slashing limits

I just checked my 2 personal Amex cards and my business Amex card. All of my credit limits are the same for the moment.

That's awesome.  Wonder what changed for me.   Score actually went from Fair to Good category (661 to 671) and no other changes to current Delta Gold usage.

Is that because all I post about is Amex? Hah. My goal to take another shot at the Amex Gold was begining of April.   It would have been 90+ says since my last Amex Gold denial.  Also, March 18th a old capital one account that is showing 4 lates from 7 years ago was due to fall off my Experian report.  So I'm waiting for that too.

The Gold had disappeared from my list of cards for a while.  They prob took it away because I applied and denied so much.  But it's back now as of 10 days ago. So that's encouraging.

But now with all the recent economic climate I bet Amex is using some stricter underwriting.   So I might wait more.  Smiley Sad

Shame on you American Express. At time of a national crisis. YOU cut my available credit limit in HALF today. Making me at 99% usage. But tell me if i make a large payment you will reinstate the original credit limit!!! I have never been late on this card since opening it 4yrs ago. . SHAME ON YOU FOR DOING THIS WHEN THERE IS A CRISIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try to remember that it's their money and they will see fit when they think they need to protect it.

Feel free to call them and have it restored.
