I'm about to call in on my amex plat card. My payment due date is today (actually scratch that its due 10/9 so I have a few more days to ponder) and the AF is the only money I owe. I have not decided if I am going to keep the card but I will call in and see the retention offer. A couple of questions. Is the please pay by date the actual due date? I kinda remember reading somewhere it isn't the actual deadline. Secondly., how can I move my points from the plat card over to one of my other Amex MR cards? Can I do this online? I don't see an option to combine the points. Is it done automatically or do I need to request that when closing the card?
I would personally pay by the please pay date. I feel like I've read conflicting info on whether it is the actual due date or not. I just pretend it is Any points I get with my PRG and my EveryDay are aturomatically combined.

This is one area where I've been told two different things via chat with Amex Cust Service...1 said that is the due date, other rep said, just pay by closing date(s). I would login and see what they say, print the chat just in case.

Yea, for some reason my everyday card and amex plat have different Amex MR account numbers. I ended up calling in to the membership reward people nad having my points manually moved from the plat over to the everyday card. This way if I do not get a good enough offer I can simply close the card on the spot. At minimum I would need an offer of 25k to justify keeping the card. I don't feel like paying the AF, but since I am trying to build up my Amex point balance again it would make sense to take the points. Plus I will get the airline credit in Jan which will take the sting oiut of the AF as well.
For charge cards, your payment is only considered "late" if received AFTER the closing date, not the due date.
*Edited* PS - For Personal Plats, there are tons of excellent retention offers available for the asking. 25K MR, 50K MR, $200 credit, etc...Bus Plats are not as generous, but they do have some too.

I called today and the offer they had for me was 20k pts or $150. There was also going to be a spend requirement to get that, so I closed the card. I would have taken the 25k points if they offered it, but the reality is I had very little use for the benefits, since I am keeping the prestige for another year. When the business version of the plat has a great signup offer for a reasonable amount of spend I will move on that.

What was the spend requirement for 20K points?

I don't know. I just know he mentioned there was one I think I have seen in the past its 3k. I wasn't interested in finding out because I had decided before I called that if they offered less than 25k points I was closing the card. I was on the fence with 25k points and no spend requirement even, but in the end I decided I would keep the card if that was the offer.

Good call !
IMO the "platinum card" and it's $450 AF has been duluted both in value and prestige (if there is such a thing today). At one time it was the card to get nods and attention traveling, not today.... Dumped mine years ago, don't miss a thing, especially the AF. Yes I know there are those that will disagree, but I speak from my experience after being invited to upgrade to the original Platinum card which I carried for almost 15 years.
