Re: Amex vs. Chase question

OP said he fly delta domestic, its typically 1.3cpp. "can" is meaningless, you have to make judgement based on average value here.

Check for pre-approval on the Amex site.

If you go for Amex, the $200 travel credit can be used more efficiently on Delta as follows:

Log on to delta on the Desktop site - not the mobile app. Buy one or more $50 Delta Gift Cards - not a higher value.

These will trigger the Airline credit AND you'll get 250 Rewards points for each card.

Thanks for this tip! I heard that in a video and wasnt sure how it worked!

The two real takeaways are desktop site only and $50 max. The $53 charge was actually the charges on a flight redemption with points - I didn't expect Amex to cover it, but it did.

it seems amex credit will cover anything that is less than 100 usd, and not explicitly labeled "gift card".

My understanding is that right now it's only working with Delta and only from the Desktop site. But it's the kind of thing the rewards and points sites keep track of

Where are you getting 6cpp on CSR? I'd like in on that.

Case-by-case is why I said AMEX "can yield", not "does yield" Smiley Wink

International multi-city in J/O. MileagePlus policy on award travel is free hops within a region on an itinerary. Intracontinental flights in premium cabins can add up quick, and depending on how many of these you do the sky's the limit:

I've broken 10 cpp once on a 5-city Europe tour as my itinerary priced out to 140k miles versus ~$15,000 for all of the flights combined.

It used to be unlimited <24 hour layovers plus an open-jaw, but honestly the new system is a little better. Even though some see it as devalued, it means I can do a single multi-city in Europe or Asia and take 3-4 days between hops if I so choose at 0 miles for each of those additional hops, also in J.

If you do a single-city destination, expect the valuation to drop back to 3-4 cpp. Even then, 140k miles for a $5,000 R/T J ticket is more than I can do via SkyMiles. Even with the new round of dynamic pricing, I can book destinations like JNB for ~400,000 UR versus ~600,000 MR.

@chriswmfang

OP says he _tends_ to fly Delta. "Can" is not meaningless for negative match use cases.

Don't confuse "average" with "frequent" or "typical" in financial advice. You'd be doing more harm than good.

Re: Amex vs. Chase question

lol, i am not interested in word games.

If someone wants to base their decision on getting value of 2cpp for delta domestic flight.... good luck.

Re: Amex vs. Chase question

I just got 5,000 cpp from MR!  Beat that UR...

(Amazon has a promotion where you can save 20% using points or a combination of points and cash, I used 1 point for a $50 savings.  Obviously not the norm.)
