Anyone Convert BoA Platinum Mastercard to Visa?

I have a secured platinum bankamericard mastercard from Bank of America with no rewards and I asked BoA to convert it to visa one so I can shop more at costco. They approved the request but I am wondering if changing it to Visa adds the 3-2-1 rewards. Has anyone converted before and had their card benefits change? I'm a platinum honors and would love the rewards.

Simply converting the network with BOA will not, AFAIK, change anything with your rewards. It will merely reissue your product as a Visa/MC/etc. You'd have to make a separate request.

+1.  It just changed card networks, not an actual product change.  How long have you had the secured card?  Has your profile improved enough to perhaps just apply for Cash Rewards or Travel Rewards?

I will get my 8th statement in a couple days and it changed CLI last month by +700. I thought about the travel rewards but wanted to get the cash rewards first for groceries and such. I dont think i will be approved for another card from them just yet.

If the conversion is to the Cash Rewards Secured Visa (yes that card exists) then yes the 3-2-1 rewards apply and since you're a Platinum Honors client the 75% rewards uplift would apply.

The BankAmericard Secured card doesn't have any rewards associated with it.

Thank you for the reply!

I called in and asked the CSR if it will be that cash rewards secured card. The CSR didn't seem to understand fully but kept on talking to me about going on the website. Probably to get me off the phone quicker. My assumption is that they'll change me into that cash rewards secured as I see that is the only other secured card available. I did some digging and cannot find anyone else that has a secured visa with no rewards.

Don't be afraid to HUCA if the CSR can't answer the question to your satisfaction.  I'll cross my fingers for you.

Pretty much all of the Bank of America cards can be issued on either network by request.  Unless a specific conversation happened that product changed the card, in all likelihood it is solely a network change.
