I did not actually apply because I don't really have any use for that card and I'm planning to apply for other cards in the next few weeks, but I was surprised that it was an option.
I've seen people talking about the apple card without an iphone, and everyone seemed to suggest that you need an apple device to apply.
I'm not not sure if this financing loophole is new, and perhaps, maybe now apple are allowing anyone to apply.
It is not a "shopping cart trick".
The reference to 0% financing on Apple Card is marketing in this case. You have to already have the Apple Card prior to checkout, to be able to select the 0% financing.

I never said anything about the SCT. I was introducing a potential loophole to apply for an apple card without an apple device.
@fatcomic wrote:You have to have an apple device with Apple Wallet to apply. I think you can use an old iphone as long as it's a 6/6S or newer, will work if you have access to an old one. You can set up an apple ID and apply over wi-fi. You might can apply at the apple store, that is just a guess though.
So apparently, that's no longer the case. Either intentionally or unintentionally.

If one is only looking for financing options then I'd rather app for an Amazon or Best Buy card where you'd get more use and special financing on Apple products instead of app'ing for a card that you'd only earn 1% cash back at best since you don't have an Apple device.
TLDR, even if it were possible it still doesn't make sense to app for this card without an Apple device.
You don't actually have to finance your device to get the card. You just need to pretend you're about to check out and finance your purchases, but once you apply you can leave the site. I guess same idea as the SCT, but to avoid a different issue (in this case, restrictions for the device).
There are a few reasons that one may want the apple card:
Apple may have special deals for apple card holders. I heard that during the upcoming holiday season, apple may have deals exclusively for apple card holders.
Another reason may be in a case someone is building or rebuilding and wants to avoid an unnecessary hard pull in the case of a denial.
I've heard some of my android holder friends complaining that they are missing out on that coll metal card...

Color me shocked if Apple does anything "special" considering they offer little to no sign up bonus on their card and in my experience they don't usually discount anything that they sell unless it's about to be dated by another one of their products.
Last year they offered 6% cash back on Apple products for the holidays https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cnbc.com/amp/select/limited-time-offer-earn-6percent-cash-back-on-a...
It would be nice if they offered that again but I'm not expecting it.

Ok, how far along would you get?
Without an iPhone, it seems quite unlikely an app for Apple Card would work.
If someone can prove it is possible, actually get the card approval, that would be interesting.

I've had an Apple ID for years even though I haven't actually used an iPhone since the 4the Gen, I do have the option to apply in my iPhone 6.
They might have opened up the application process to get more people than what they were with just Apple devices. it happens all the time when Companies don't hit the number they initially expected.
I applied last night and was approved i don't have an iPhone or an iPad.
so yea its possible

I think Apple always planned on wider availability of the card and they just didn't have the infrastructure at launch to do it. If Apple can finance everything on their own card, they're obviously going to prefer that be the case. Since Apple is still trying to attract new customers, it makes sense to open it to everyone who wants to finance a new Apple purchase to get them in the ecosystem.
