That's what contributors here have been saying. There are a few threads with this response in it.
That would be great. Was thinking about applying BCE at 2012 and if approved close my ZYNC card.
That's correct. Soft hit if denied and you get your EX FICO. If approved, hard inq and no FICO.
Not exacly true, I just received my 3rd AmEx Card and this time for some reason AmEx sent me a letter Congratulating me and in the Congrats letter it contained my EX FICO they used in part to determine my creditworthiness.
I did not receive a Congrats letter for my first two AmEx cards, but for some reason they sent me a letter this time and in the letter was my EX FICO, I was like YES, I finally know my EX FICO.
From what I understand, you will recieve your credit score on any app that you did not get approved for the best terms. May not be a FICO, but you will recieve a score. On AMEX inpeticular it's a FICO.
wtg and congrats, feels good to get those approvals,,, feels good to share the news on here, right folks?

So if you are approved for a charge card you will not get a score because the terms are the same for everyone, except the zync counteroffers. Am I understanding this correctly?

That's right... You won't get a "score" for the charge products because the terms are the same for everyone. If you apply for a revolver, you will get the score if you don't receive the best terms available for the card you are applying for or if denied. You will get a "score" if you are denied for the charge products too.
I was just approved for the Gold card and didn't get my FICO because I received the same terms as everyone else.
It is bitter sweet getting the card. I am happy as ______ that I can apply for a credit/charge product now and NOT feel with certainty that I will be denied. I've been working hard to get my scores up, so when I apply for a card now, it hurts me to app because I don't like the inquiries.

Statistically, the individuals with the best scores haven't app'd for a credit product in years.
I want be one of those people! One day I will!!!
I figure do it now and get it over with,, then retire and garden
After I read your post I went back and checked my Green Card letter, accepted two weeks ago, to see if it had a score. There was nothing there. The Discover More card did have a score because I did not get the best APR. Good thing to know. I need to get on requesting my free copy of the reports. I want to see what they look like when they come from the CRA.

I did not get a letter with a score from Discover (I already knew my EQ FICO anyway) I assume now after reading this thread, is because they gave me their best terms.
EDIT: to add, Congrats to the OP on the new Gold Card!!!!
