The Target Redcard Debit Card works with all the same benefits of the CC, just it draws from your checking account, worth considering if you like target and 5% off, but don't want a low CL card =) Even 5% cash back can't beat 5% off, same bonus, no work, lol.
^ +1
I'm currently at 15 inquiries, When I was approved for Target, I had a bit over 10 inquiries.

I just got the big N-O from Target for their store charge card. However, I was able to convince the CSR to transfer me to an account analyst. She explained that if you have more than 6 hard inquiries (I had 8) in the past 90 days you will almost always get denied, regardless of FICO score. Apparently it's some limit with TD Bank, so I'll test this theory and reapply once I get below this threshold and update this thread.
Sorry about your denial, but at least they gave you some valuable info.
I'm really on the fence about going for this CC when I make my garden escape in the spring. I do shop and Target and like the discount, but I don't like the low CLs handed out and having a card that can't really grow with you.
People have started with large initial CLs at Target, and people have received respectable CLIs over time. However, do you really need a large limit for a store CC?
I can't rember ever paying more than $200 for a transaction at Target....
Scores | 2013-09-21 | Current |
Equifax | 630 (LP) | 755 (CK)/749 (Quizzle) |
Experian | 640 (FCR) | FICO 707 (Amex) |
TransUnion | 588 (CK) | FICO 754 (Barclaycard) |

+ 1 ... did not want a store card on my credit so went for their debit card...no pulls, no low limit and no cut in AAoA..just not sure from which stage they would decline a debit transaction though ??

This is a very good question!
There's certainly some big ticket items that could swallow up a $200 CL there, like TVs or gaming systems. I've heard of someone being approved there with a $3K CL. I suppose I wouldn't "need" a limit like that, but it's nice to have wiggle room.
As for the general question of needing a large CL for a store CC, I think it largely depends on the store. I would love my JCP to grow, so I could make a major furniture purchase & take advantage of special financing offers. However, as my VS CC is only used at BBW, I'm fine with its small CL, as I don't think I'm ever going to buy $250 worth of things there at a time!

I applied for one this morning, as I think the Target card would be more beneficial to me as the only retail card I would ever get(that and Kohls). They've denied me before but I had no idea about the inquiry limit. Even if I don't get approved, it's fine, because I will start gardening in Jan 2014. My goal is to not apply for anything until then.
Thanks for the info!
On Dec 17th, I applied in-store for the REDcard credit card and was approved for $2000. I don't know which CRA they pulled but my EQ and EX CRs are comparable and my EQ is around 750.
