I'm thinking I'm going to get this card, botw and even the UMB - just in case if they ever close to nationwide, you never know what could happen.

Just curious, does anybody know if 99 cent store, Dollar tree, it's coded as general merchandise. Does it covers as groceries for the BBVA? I know Walmart and Target does for US Bank Cash+. It's why I like the UMB it's really broad.

I need to get the mail again, I keep throwing it away but this time I won't lol. I will call the application department on Monday to see if they could resend or just give me a reservation code or something.

Walmart and target code for grocery on cash plus?

Did I understand you correctly? Do you mean just the supercenters or all of them? Because the supercenters have a MCC code of grocery, so it’s my understanding visa and MasterCard will code them properly but AmEx refuses to do so, as well as discover.

To find out a stores MCC code use this:

Yes Walmart and Target, not super stores. I'm sure Smart and Final, Grocery Outlet, even your local Hispanic grocery supermarket codes as groceries lol. I got 2x on my everyday with the local supermarket, not sure why you said they refuse it.

Re: BBVA Compass ClearPoints Pre-Qual Mailer

Honestly I would just use a flat 2% card instead of trying to figure out what the Cash+ would code as grocery anyway. It’s not like it’s a 5% category, it’s a 2% category. Why risk 1% cash back when there are flat 2% everywhere cards?

Re: BBVA Compass ClearPoints Pre-Qual Mailer

Only Walmart superstores code as grocery for the MCC code according to visa. Regular Walmarts code as discount stores.

I did not say they refuse amex; I said they refuse to code as grocery for Amex. Otherwise I would get 6% with my BCP.

Saeren thank you for pointing that out. I misunderstood. I just got the cash plus and haven’t used it yet. I was assuming that was one of the 5% categories.

FWIW, my local Walmart Supercenter codes as grocery on the ClearPoints (YMMV)... before I switched nearly everything to the AR I had planned on making the ClearPoints my go-to card for Walmart going forward.

For the most part... definitely anywhere I can use Samsung Pay or Google Pay (which is a lot of places). Smiley Happy

I still like my other cards, though... FWIW the ClearPoints is a strong contender and has never let me down.
