BBVA Compass

Last year I opened a BBVA Compass card with 1 year 0% interest. In the last 6 months, I've been locked out of my account twice forcing me to call and spend 45 minutes to get reconnected. Both times incurred a late fee. They waived the late fee when I called the last time, but I didn't know until today it was credited as the call was disconnected during the transfer. Today they refused to do it.

So I asked for retention or to close the account. The rep said they didn't have a retention dept, so I closed the account. They lost a customer over $27. Their customer service is overseas and requires a lot of explanation to understand what I'm looking for. Their phone system is janky having disconnected me several times in the last year. And their website totally locks you out periodically.

I'm very dissatisfied with this experience and don't recommend this credit card to anyone. The account is paid off now and closed.

Re: BBVA Compass

Sorry to hear about your BBVA experience. Their website does seem to have a lot quirkiness for those who have reported some of the issues.

Thankfully, I've never had any connectivity issues or being locked out of the site so I'm not sure if this is driven inherently by some settings or the browser itself or whatnot.

Not long ago @Jnbmom shared an incident when submitting a pre-approved application for DH and the site wasn't responsive when executing an action. So, after a few attempts the offer went *poof*.

Re: BBVA Compass

Thanks for that feedback about BBVA.

I had a business checking account several years ago (actually with Compass Bank, which became part of BBVA) along with a credit card that they later closed for non-use.

Other than that, no dealings with them.

I had thought of applying for another card with them but this news is discouraging.

Good customer service is an important consideration for me.

Re: BBVA Compass

I haven't had an issue with my BBVA card yet and the one time I did have to call customer service, I got a rep with a southern accent and just assumed they must be in Alabama where BBVA's HQ is.

Poor customer service experiences happen in every business. Sorry that you had one OP.

Re: BBVA Compass

?????

I got the BBVA Clear Points card in March w/13 months 0% and it quickly became one of my favorite cards with one 3% and one 2% rewards categories you chose monthly. And they regularly run promos with an extra 4% rewards stacked on top of your categories, I got 7% on groceries all of September, the extra 4% is capped at $30 ($750 spend) which was more than enough for me. What's not to like?

I've called in twice for minor issues/questions and the rep sure sounded US based to me (yeah, Alabama southern accent), but the important part is if they resolved my issue quickly & efficiently which they did. I've also opened checking & savings with them and never had a single issue with the web site. I'm the opposite of a procrastinator and schedule my payment when I retrieve my statement, so if I did encounter a website glitch/lockout no worries of any late fee.

Absolutely! It's normally a $25 redemption level for a statement credit, but I believe you can use less than that to offset a purchase. But I'm patient and so many of my other cards have a $25 redemption level I'm used to it.

Re: BBVA Compass

Yep $25 or erase purchases equal or less than point value. Really easy to use.

Re: BBVA Compass

So is the cash back is only used for statement credit or can you transfer it to your bank account?
