Which is best for gas and groceries???? I would prefer something with 0% interest for at least some time frame and cash back rewards as we don't travel that often. I currently have the TY preferred citi so not sure if that makes a difference or not?
Or another card would be better???
What are your other cards?
For 95% of people (who pay in full each month), the Double Cash will beat out the Cash Rewards.
If you have a card for basically every category out there aside from Gas, then the Cash Rewards wins since you can use it solely for gas/groceries and use your other cards for everything else. On the other hand, for "normal" people, the Double Cash wins.
Also, the rewards on Gas/Groceries is only up to the point where you spend $1,500 in 1 quarter on those 2. That is NOTHING if you have a wife (and possibly kids?). The card becomes a 1% CB on everything card after $1,500 in spending on groceries/gash each quarter. Double Cash is unlimited.
Lastly, Cash Rewards has a 0% APR for 12 months promotion. Double Cash has a 0% APR for 15 months promotion. With you seeking out something that has this promotional APR, Double Cash wins.
I recommend Double Cash.
We only have an Amazon store card (no current balance) and a Citi TY preferred (we generally use for everything and pay off each month). Once our new home closes I was thinking of replacing the TY card for a card that offers cashback and higher reward rates and either another main card or a store card for furniture and appliances.

What you can do is PC your TY Preferred to a Double Cash now (it beats out the TY in every single pay possible since the TY only gets 2% restuarants while the DC is 2% on everything - I know that DC is CB while TY is points.
But that's not a problem because... then, down the road (any time you feel comfortable), open up a TY premier. You'll get the 50,000-60,000 bonus points AND you'll get to transfer all your points from your DC to it and use those points to transfer to airlines/use as CB/use with American Airlines.
Do I just call or click to chat Citibank and request changing my TY to the DC??
Have you considered American Express BCE or BCP? (Blue Cash Everyday/Preferred)
How much do you spend on groceries a month? For low spend (~$250/month), Sallie Mae gives 5% back as well as 5% back on gas (also up to $250 a month but these are separate caps -- $250 for grocery and $250 for gas a month).
But between Double Cash and Cash Rewards, Double Cash is better IMO.
Double Cash, agreed

please do not get a furniture card unless you absolutely need it for a promotion.
if i were you I would get online and request a credit limit increase of 25k with your amazon store card. soft pull.
pc typ to DC for general spend
then after your mortgage, both of you guys apply for a salliemae card for 5% back on 250/mo on gas and groceries. Each use same inquiry and one grabs a Ring and another grabs a card with a bonus.
I took your advice in another thread and was able to increase our Citi TY cl with no credit pull but not by much, only $500, I am going to go for Amazon CLI this week. The promotional periods for the 2 furniture stores we were looking at are 3 and 5 years which I doubt any card can offer.
Does anyone know if I PC the Thank you to DC do I get the 0% for 15 months?
