No credit card required

I applied for a BOA unsecured card and was denied. I called the back door recon number I found on this forum to see about being qualified for a secured card instead, and was sent to another department (apparently unsecured analysts don't handle secured cards). The secured department told me I'd have to apply for a secured card, which would do another HP on my credit.
I've read quite a few threads on here from people who've called the back door number and gotten a secured card. How are you doing this? I don't want them to pull my credit again, but I'd like to have the BOA card to start building a relationship with this bank. Thanks so much for any advice you have!

I was turned down too. They asked about several of my issues in my file. I was told that they would use same pull if within 30 days though as I apped for unsecured first. They were right- only hit my report once.
I applied on 3/11 for the unsecured. They said no and secured was recommended. I went for it. They debited my non-BOA checking account for my $300 collateral the next day. I didn't hear anything and there were no online updates or emails. I called the Backdoor number this morning and was told "Congratulations you're approved, but we are waiting on your collateral to clear (???), and a card will then be sent in 7-10 bus days". First approval on any BOA product. They probably said yes as my BK7 falls off in 10.5 months.
They did just 1 HP.
