Backdating Question

I just got my PRG in the mail, but I had an AMEX account back in the 90's.  My MSD says member since 14.  I asked customer service about this and they asked....did I have a membership and cancel and not come back, and I said yes.  I cancelled and didnt come back til now.  They said that if that is the case then my MSD is not going to reflect that previous membership.

Re: Backdating Question

Did you call in or use that chat feature? I used chat and they put in the request and a few hours later it was processed. They did't really ask any questions...I just told them when I had become a member (year). Try that out and let us know!

Re: Backdating Question

Chat is the way to go.

But it should be noted that Amex does seem to be tightening up on this policy.

Re: Backdating Question

It doesn't matter what it says on your card in terms of CR backdating - if it says it online when you login that's what will be on your report under account opened date.

When you login it says Your Name and then under that it says "CARDMEMBER SINCE XXXX".

AMEX BCP $35k | Citi Double Cash $30k | PenFed PlatRewards $25k | Barclaycard $40k | Chase Freedom $25k | BofA Cash Rewards $40K | US Bank Cash+ $4500 | Discover IT $25k | NASA Platinum-Advantage $40k | CapOne Quicksilver $15k | Amazon Card $10k | Ten years on myFICO from 510 to 780 scores

Right.  When I logged in it said 2014 (because I havent had an account with them for over 10 years).  They fixed it now through chat session.  I got notification email and logged in just now and it has the date I first opened an account with them.

Definitely.  Amex considers your MSD the date you first got a card - ever.  I went through this a few years ago after rebuilding and was approved for PRG.  It had like 2011 open date, I called and asked but they seemed dumbfounded.  A few weeks later I noticed my MSD changed on the homepage to 1998.  I never did the chat feature, just got very lucky in that case.
